Why Ex-NFL Star Brian Dawkins Keeps Jesus ‘Number One’: ‘He Wants to Help’

Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Brian Dawkins dedicated 20 years of his life to his NFL career, but once that time was over, he struggled to find his purpose.

In an interview with the “Faith on the Field” podcast, he shared what helped him.

“Anytime I’ve needed some kind of help with anything I’ve gone through, my number one is Jesus, and my number one is prayer. My number one is that relationship and that connection with the Lord,” Dawkins said.

“It took me a long time to reach that point, to figure that out, to know that I have this direct pipeline to God that I don’t have to be in church to pray,” he continued. “I don’t have to get down on my knees to pray. I don’t have to be sitting in a pew. I don’t have to be in a formal setting. Like, we can talk to the Lord anywhere, anytime, for anything, and He’s always willing.

“As I said to everybody last week, all we have to do is ask,” he continued. “He’s there. He wants to help us. All we have to do is ask. So, while we find comfort in people because we need people around us and we need those who are equipped clinically to help, the Lord is my number one, and that is what has helped me.”

Now, Dawkins uses his faith and resources for his Impact Foundation, which is dedicated to “providing inspiration, education and resources to youth, families and communities in need.”

In a recent Instagram post, Dawkins shared a photo with people from his organization who help daily.

The nine-time Pro Bowler wrote, “Great things on and off the field are never done by one person. They are done by a team of people.” Make an impact!”
