Why This Actress Prays Her Children Feel ‘Uneasy’

Priscilla Shirer prays her sons feel convicted when they’re doing wrong.
“One of the prayers I have prayed for my sons for a long time is, ‘Lord, would you let the weight of conviction be so heavy on them that when they are trying to do wrong, they actually can’t because there’s such a gut level feeling of discomfort? They can’t rest well; their gut feels uneasy, so they can’t even enjoy food — like everything is just so uneasy,” the actress said on Candace Cameron Bure’s podcast.

Shirer and her husband, Jerry, share three sons: Jackson, Jerry and Jude. And she believes many moms will relate to this prayer, even though it might seem harsh.
“There’s some mom that’s going, ‘I can pray that prayer for my kids right now, totally,’ and listen, we better pray it because it used to be when they lived with us, we could be the loud voice of conviction,” she explained.
“But when they go off to college, and they’re on their own — they’re in their own worlds — there still needs to be a loud voice, and it won’t be you because you won’t even know what’s going on,” the speaker and author continued. “You won’t see the friends they’re hanging out with or the choice they’re about to make, so I pray, ‘Lord, make them uneasy if they’re walking in a way that is outside of your will.'”
Along with being a mom and an actress, Shirer heads her Going Beyond Ministry, which “is focused on the expository teaching of the Word of God. We are committed to teaching the uncompromising truths of His Word. Our desire is not only to see all understand His written Word but for all to experience His Power!”
She also recently dove into the topic of surrender in her latest book, “I Surrender All.”
It’s an “invitation to surrender everything to Jesus. To follow Him not just as your Savior but as your priority, your first love, your Lord. To move beyond being a believer to becoming His disciple.”
