More Detail:
OUR CHRISTMAS WEDDING is a lighthearted entry in the Great American Family network’s Great American Christmas package of 20 Christmas movies being telecast over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
The movie opens at a home Thanksgiving dinner at Bradley and Kim’s, who are also celebrating their first wedding anniversary. Another couple is at the dining table with them, namely Bradley’s nephew, Michael, and his girlfriend, Nicole, who planned Bradley and Kim’s wedding. During conversation, Michael gets up from the table, gets down on one knee, and proposes to Nicole, who responds effusively, “Yes. Of course, I will!”
As the OUR CHRISTMAS WEDDING storyline unfolds, it reveals the personality differences between Michael, a musician, and Nicole, a corporate sales rep. The first illustration is what kind of Christmas tree to buy for Michael’s place. Michael picks small and sparse, but she prefers full and tall. The main contrast arises with ideas for the upcoming nuptials. Michael is ready to brainstorm with Nicole, but Nicole has a wedding planning book she has compiled for “the last two decades,” complete with a “Table of Contents” and an “Index,” with all the decisions previously made. Thus, we have before us a perfect example of the proverbial phrase “opposites attract.”
When Michael does get to peruse Nicole’s wedding planning book, he responds to page one’s venue selection with, “Let’s go see it!” On their visit to the impressive location, the couple finds out the building has been bought by a developer and is due to be torn down after the first of the New Year to make way for construction of condominiums. As Michael and Nicole later discuss this sudden turn of events, they decide to get married in the building that Christmas, before the demolition. Aunt Kim volunteers to return the favor to Nicole and plan their wedding.
Aunt Kim also happens to be Nicole’s boss at work. When Nicole makes disparaging remarks about her wedding location’s imminent fate during a presentation to a corporate client, complications ensue when that client turns out to be the same condo developer she disses. Then, Michael gets an offer to record a Christmas set in studio ASAP. More complications ensure, and it looks like Nicole’s long-planned “perfect wedding” is falling apart.
OUR CHRISTMAS WEDDING boasts top quality camera work. It compliments a script that chronicles the complications that ensue when the “perfect” plans for anything invariably go awry. The actors give appealing performances, particularly in portraying imperfect yet well-meaning family members trying to make the best of a seemingly deteriorating situation.
OUR CHRISTMAS WEDDING has a morally uplifting, wholesome, pro-family worldview, with Christian, biblical values and content. For instance, toward the beginning of the movie, Nicole explains to her best friend that she won’t move in with Michael until after the wedding. In another scene, when Aunt Kim insists the wedding dress is the most important thing for the wedding, Nicole counters that it’s the people, families, bride and groom, and guests. At the surprise bridal shower, the family is lifted high as Nicole’s mother gifts Nicole with a bracelet given to her by Nicole’s grandmother. Uncle Bradley downplays the intense focus on planning the wedding day to encourage Michael to concentrate on his love for Nicole and on planning for the days and years they will be spending together. A last, but not least, example of the movie’s worldview shows through the personal wedding vows Nicole and Michael speak to each, expressing that they are “best friends,” “soul mates,” and can’t wait to spend the rest of their lives together. Some familiar Christmas carol music plays in the background, but the marriage ceremony lacks any spiritual references. However, OUR CHRISTMAS WEDDING has no inappropriate content. So, it’s a family-friendly movie appropriate for all ages.
