More Detail:
OUR LITTLE SECRET is a romantic comedy streaming on NETFLIX about two childhood best friends, Avery and Logan, who dated as young adults but haven’t seen each other in a decade since breaking up. Ten years later, they unexpectedly meet again when they realize their current love interests are siblings. They face the turmoil of a very affluent yet chaotic family as they try to keep their past relationship secret while winning the approval of Erica, the selfish and prideful mother. The film is very entertaining and comedic, with sweet moments along the way.
It is 2014. Logan and Avery, who have known each other since childhood, arrive at a house at night. Logan is drunk, stumbling over his words and telling Avery he’ll miss her since she’s moving away. They arrive at her surprise going away party, where friends and family hang out and drink. Logan proposes to keep Avery from moving, but she declines, leading to a fight. He storms outside and punches a Christmas decoration.
The movie flashes through milestones that have occurred in the past decade, one of which is the legalization of same-sex marriage. It’s now 2024, and Logan and Avery have successful careers and new relationships. They both travel to meet their significant other’s parents.
Avery arrives at her boyfriend Cam’s parent’s house, where Erica, the mom, is rude and hard to please. Avery chugs a glass of wine. Logan arrives at his girlfriend Cassie’s parent’s house, which ends up in the exact location as Avery (their significant others are brother and sister). Avery and Logan are shocked to see each other after a decade but pretend they don’t know each other. Avery mentions she doesn’t want the family to picture that they used to be physically intimate as a reason for keeping their history secret.
Later, Logan and Avery pick out a Christmas tree for the family. Logan offers to help Erica like Avery. In the car, Avery finds and eats some gummies but later learns they have THC in them. She stumbles and hallucinates during a Christmas service because she’s high. She goes on stage to tell the nativity story and messes it up, but the choir improvises and ends up singing “Celebrate Good Times.”
Later, Avery eats almost the entire jar of Erica’s cookies and blames it on the dog. They take the dog to the vet, and Avery convinces the vet to lie about performing procedures to save the dog.
The couples then go to a bar. Avery must leave early to deal with work stuff, but her boyfriend Cam ends up staying and cheating on her with another girl. He arrives back home at 5 a.m. and asks Logan to lie for him.
The family has a Christmas dinner, and Logan walks in on Leonard, Erica’s husband, kissing another woman in one of the closets. They admit that they’re having an affair. During Secret Santa, Erica accidentally opens a gift of lingerie that Logan intended to give to his girlfriend. Logan’s mom and grandmother come to the dinner and recognize Avery, so they confess to the family that they do know each other and used to date.
Everyone’s secrets then come out, including the affair between Marge and Leonard. Erica says she’s okay with it. Avery and Logan leave the party. A few weeks later, they reconnect at a welcome-home party and confess their love for each other. They end up together again.
