Though Paige Bueckers has had a difficult first season in the WNBA, playing for a team that is last in their division, she has remained rooted in her faith and continues to spread a positive message.
“It’s easy to believe in God and think all things are well when you’re coming off a National Championship. But how are you and how is your character when you have a losing record?” Bueckers said when discussing how her switch to the WNBA has tested her faith.

Nonetheless, Bueckers remains rooted in her faith which carried her not only to a National Championship win at UCONN last year, but also saw her being the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft. All of this seemed unlikely three years ago, however, after Bueckers’ season was cut short after she tore her ACL. However, even then, she found hope in the Lord and trusted that He would work all things for good.
“It’s hard trying to make sense of it all now but I can’t help but think that God is using me as a testimony as to how much you can overcome with Him by your side,” Bueckers wrote while recovering from her injury in 2022. “Some little kid that just tore their ACL or had a major surgery might need this story, because it’s going to be one hell of a comeback. There is going to be good days and there is going to be bad days but my absolute love for the game and Godly strength will get me back to where I need to be.”
Bueckers has certainly been able to regain her form, averaging 18 points and 5 assists per game even when receiving little help from her teammates. Meanwhile, she continues to be bold about her faith with the public, something that she believes has gotten easier as more and more athletes begin to do the same.
“Yeah, I think people are more outward in their faith and more comfortable talking about it,” she told Fox Sports. “I feel like the more you see it the more popularized it becomes, and the more comfortable everyone comes with it. But yeah, I definitely think it’s growing in terms of being outspoken about it.”
It is extremely encouraging to see Bueckers so proud to talk about her faith and inspire others to do the same. While many male athletes have inspired many young boys to take their faith seriously, there are less examples of women athletes doing the same. Thus, Bueckers is making a large impact by sharing her faith, rather than shying away from it, even as her team struggles to win games.
