Jets quarterback Justin Fields shared that faith has taken on a new role in his life as he has allowed the Lord to mold his heart and become his largest focus in life.
“I’ve been getting closer to God – reading the Bible every day, building that relationship,” Fields said. “There’s so much wisdom and so many great lines I didn’t even know about. Honestly, I’m low-key addicted to like getting my Bible each and every day because I learn something new every day, and I’m able to apply it to my everyday life.”
“I was sleeping on the Bible earlier in my life,” Fields added. “I wish I had started sooner. I encourage everyone to just read a little bit and go from there.”

Fields is one of many NFL quarterbacks who have been outspoken about their faith in recent years. From Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson to Patrick Mahomes and Brock Purdy, it seems that faith is everywhere in the NFL these days. And rather than keeping quiet about their relationship with the Lord, these players use the platform given to them by professional sports to share the Gospel with fans.
This has had an impact on younger fans especially who look up to these players and desire to emulate them in every way. These players are taking on this responsibility and attempting to be good role models, like Texans quarterback C.J Stroud, for example, who decided to give up swearing.
“I was watching an interview that I was doing a couple days ago, and I’m like, ‘Man, like, why am I saying this or I’m saying that?’ Like, that’s not even me. I don’t know where, and then what he was saying is like, man sometimes like the issue isn’t necessarily the issue. It’s the emotion that comes with it,” Stroud told the Sports Spectrum podcast in 2024.
“So, like when you get emotional about something, like when I get emotional about football, I’m just feeling the emotion that I get on the field,” he said. “I like start to play the game or feed into the profanity, you know? And I caught it. I’m like, ‘Hold on. This isn’t right.’ You know what I mean?”
This outpouring of faith has bled down into lower levels of football as well, such as in college football where this year’s National Championship winning Ohio State team was full of Christians who were not afraid to share their faith.
Praise the Lord for Justin Fields placing a newfound emphasis on his faith and the boldness of all the NFL players who use their platform to glorify God.
