What You Need To Know:
As a dispensable mystery thriller, BASIC INSTINCT 2 is mostly well-written and directed, but ultimately too sensational and over-the-top. Michael's gullibility just becomes too unconvincing. Adding to this negative quality are the movie's explicit sex scenes and strong foul language. The movie also contains nudity and a scene of bloody violence that's also over-the-top. Finally, the unscrupulous villainess gets away with her crimes once again.

Once again, Stone plays Catherine Tramell, a seductive, thrill-seeking mystery writer with a penchant for sexual mind games and murder and a penchant for wearing see-through blouses. Fourteen years earlier, Catherine apparently had murdered a couple San Francisco policemen and gotten away with the crimes. The movie opens with Catherine driving a speeding car in London while a doped-up athlete arouses her. The car drives off the road and into the Thames River. Catherine escapes, but the athlete drowns. The system tries Catherine for allegedly giving the athlete a drug that prevented him from escaping the car, but the key witness has lied before, so the judge lets Catherine go.
Catherine teases the lead psychiatrist against her, Dr. Michael Glass, whose wife ran off with a tabloid reporter. She convinces him to give her therapy, but Michael keeps letting himself get deeper and deeper into Catherine’s web of half-truths and lies. The tabloid reporter, who is investigating both Michael and the corrupt policeman trying to nab Catherine, ends up murdered. As other murders pile up, Michael suspects Catherine, but she keeps feeding him other potential suspects, and he eventually succumbs to her intense seduction of every man in her path.
