In a recent interview, Jonathan Roumie reflected on how God chose him to play the role of Jesus in the series THE CHOSEN.
“You were chosen,” Father Mike Schmitz told Roumie in their interview. “And there’s something in that that has changed you. You being chosen to not only portray Jesus but to be His disciple and imitator of Him, as Saint Paul says.”
In Ephesians 5:1-2, Paul says, “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.”
Roumie said, “That’s something I’m trying to wrap my head around and identify with. He asked, He picked me. And I, of course, said yes, because I needed the work initially.”

He had no idea how portraying Jesus would affect him.
“I didn’t know what it was going to do to me internally. I think to myself, ‘Well, He’s giving me these opportunities for a reason. So, I’m going to just dive in as best as I can, as flawed as I am, and just try to give as much of myself to Him in this journey and go as far as I can and see where He takes me.’”
People in the comment section admired Roumie’s surrender to God’s plan.
“An amazing conversation! Thank you! God bless both these men! ❤️🙏” one person commented. Another said, “What an absolutely beautiful thing to be chosen to play Jesus and be a strong Christian.”
Fans first saw Roumie’s version of Jesus in 2019 when THE CHOSEN began. Since then, both the show’s and Roumie’s popularity has grown.
“I’m so grateful for all the prayers and support I’ve received from everyone in my sphere, throughout this particularly challenging year and the several preceding it,” he reflected in a Christmas post.
He continued, “God has been so kind and merciful, and I continue to entreat upon that mercy as I endeavor to be a better witness, and a better man in the year ahead.”
“In this time of reflection, whether amidst stillness or chaos, may we feel God’s presence no matter what our circumstances, 🌌🌠confident in the knowledge that everything, EVERYTHING truly comes from Him,” Roumie concluded. “And in this revelation, that each moment we struggle or suffer is a newfound opportunity to be drawn into the mystery and presence of His love and Divine Will for our lives. I pray this not only for myself but for each one of you!”
Praise God for how He’s used Roumie to touch CHOSEN fans around the world and impact the actor’s own life.
