5 Awesome Facts About The New THOR Movie: Behind the Scenes of THOR: RAGNAROK

Movieguide® had a chance to hear from the cast, director and producer of THOR: RAGNAROK from Marvel Studios.
THOR: RAGNAROK, the third Thor movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shows Thor (Chris Hemsworth) trying to save his home Asgard from impending total destruction, as foretold in prophecies. Thor learns he has an evil sister named Hela (Cate Blanchett). Calling herself “the goddess of death,” she unexpectedly defeats Thor in a fight. Thor is exiled to another planet, where he’s forced into fighting a gladiatorial game against his old friend, the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Can Thor and Hulk escape the planet and stop Hela from destroying the people of Asgard?
Here are five standout things we learned about the new THOR movie and the Marvel Cinematic Universe from the event Movieguide attended.
1. Everyone wanted the third Thor movie to be funnier.
Chris Hemsworth credited the Director, Taika Waititi for infusing more humor into the movie and creating the tone it had.
“I think we all had a vision, an idea and a want,” Hemsworth said, “to do something vastly different than what we’ve done before, and take it to a different place, and that meant doing away with what we knew, and just reinventing it, and that came from [Taika’s] crazy, wonderful brain.”
Producer Kevin Feige, who oversees all the Marvel movies, praised Hemsworth’s comedic talent.
“Everything Chris has done with this character,” he said, “there have been moments of humor throughout, and we wanted to build on that.”
2. Instead of the Hulk getting his own movie, he’ll get a character arc over the course of three movies.
When asked if the Hulk will ever get his own standalone movie, Ruffalo stated, “I would love to do a Hulk movie.”
However, he continued, “About a year ago, Kevin [Feige] asked me to come over and have a script meeting. Basically, he sat me down and said, ‘What would you like to do if you had a standalone Hulk movie?’ I said, ‘I’d like to do this, this, and this, and then this, and then end like this.’ And, he said, ‘I love that. Let’s do that over the next three movies, starting with Thor 3, and then carry it on through Avengers 3 and Avengers 4. So, that’s my standalone Hulk movie.’
3. Chris Hemsworth loved acting with a Hulk who had dialogue.
“This is my favorite version of the Hulk,” Hemsworth said.
“We actually got to act together, we only ever fought one another on screen on the other films. This time around we got to improvise our way through it and invent this chemistry that we hadn’t explored before, and build this new version of the Hulk that was a little more articulate and vocal than before.”

4. A female driven superhero movie is coming.
Tessa Thompson, who plays the female warrior Valkyrie in THOR: RAGNAROK, was asked if she would ever get her own solo movie.
She responded, “Recently, I marched up with a couple other women that work in Marvel, to Kevin Feige, [and asked] ‘what about a movie with some female superheroes. Just like all of them?’”
Kevin Fiege confirmed Tessa’s report, saying, “It’s a pretty amazing moment to be somewhere, have your shoulder tapped, and you turn around, and every female hero we have was standing there going, ‘How about it?’ I said yes.”
Mark Ruffalo called them “The Fem-engers,” which he yelled out after Kevin’s comment.
5. The Director, Taika Waitit, is actually a pretty funny man.
When asked what the most difficult thing was about filming the new THOR movie, Taika pointed at the cast members sitting next to him, resulting in a laugh from the crowd. He then said that choosing lunch was the next most difficult thing because there were so many options.
When asked about the type of music Taika would play on the set, some remember David Bowie being played, and one cast member blurted out, “Don’t Bite Your Friends,” a children’s song by Yo Gabba Gabba that teaches children not to bite each other. Taika joked that the song was a good lesson for cast members to not bite each other.
