Celebrities Hurl Vicious, Obscene Slurs Against Prayer

In the wake of Sunday’s murder of 26 churchgoers and injuring of 20 more in the small Texas town of Sutherland Springs, several celebrities have lobbed vicious, obscene attacks against calls for prayer for the victims and their families.
For example, comedian Paula Poundstone tweeted, “If prayers were the answer 2 gun violence, wouldn’t people at a church service be safe? Please make gun laws.”
Alleged “journalist” Keith Olbermann wrote, “Speaker Ryan, shove your prayers up you’re a** AND DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE BESIDES PLATITUDES AND POWER GRABS.”
Finally, Actor Wil Wheaton of the 1990s TV show STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION and a bit player on THE BIG BANG THHEORY, tweeted, “The murdered victims were in a church. If prayers did anything, they’d still be alive, you worthless sack of s***.”
Lovely.
These hateful people and others like them, most of whom seem to be advocates of gun control, are not only being vicious and obscene, they are also clearly ignorant.
In the first place, prayers are not just for murdered people. They’re also for their families and friends, and for the victims who were wounded or who are still at risk of dying in the hospital.
Second, God is not our divine bellhop, who exists merely to satisfy our personal wants and desires, including our desire for a long and pain-free life. Thus, Mr. Wheaton’s silly comment that, if prayer worked, no one in that Texas church would have died, is a really ignorant statement that displays no knowledge of Christian or church doctrine regarding God, prayer and religious services or assemblies.
Third, prayer (including petitions or requests to God to do something, such as perform a miracle) is not meant to have a guaranteed outcome that overrules God’s own divine sovereignty and divine prerogative. It’s meant to comfort us, to bring us closer to God through Jesus Christ, and to be a model for others to follow, among many other things.
Fourth, in reality, the Texas killer broke gun laws that were already on the books! He also had to lied on the papers requesting the guns he bought. Finally, were it not for the NRA member who stopped the killer, even more people could have lost their lives, not only in the church but whatever other places the killer was planning to go with his weapons.
Fifth, several comprehensive studies have shown that, not only do gun control laws make violent crime worse, but that increased gun ownership in the United States in the past 25 years or so, has actually reduced the level of violent crime in the USA. Thus, more gun ownership actually leads to less violent crime.
Finally, guns are not the cause of violent crime; they are a METHOD of violent crime. In fact, if voters and their political leaders really want to decrease the amount of violent crime even further in the United States, they might want to consider putting God, prayer and biblical instruction back into the public schools and universities. They also might want to consider ending the welfare system, which has helped destroyed the American Family and created millions of fatherless boys who go on to join violent gangs and breed more fatherless boys who join violent gangs, ad infinitum.
