More Detail:
“Verandah Santa” is an excellent Christmas special. It’s well animated, tightly written, and contains an uplifting message about empathy. In terms of production value, this episode shares the same strengths as the rest of the BLUEY franchise. The art style is colorful, the voice acting is cute yet believable, and the chemistry amongst the Heeler dog family is strong. Yet, does this episode land on the nice or naughty list?
BLUEY exhibits a strong Christian bias towards family, sisterhood, and empathy. In the case of “Verandah Santa,” the family openly celebrates Christmas Eve. There is no mention of God or Jesus, but the Heeler family practices exchanging gifts and being thankful for each other’s presence. Later, the title character learns to forgive her friend after said friend almost ruined the family’s roleplay game. However, this episode does contain some things worthy of Santa’s naughty list.
“Verandah Santa” has Bandit Heeler, the patriarch of the family, throwing his body on top of his children during a game. A one-year-old puppy bites the finger of the protagonist. Bluey stalls the game in protest of the newborn puppy. Lastly, Bluey and her extended family get into a surprise pillow fight. Otherwise, this episode has no objectionable values.
