More Detail:
The movie begins with Michael hosting his show. During one of his breaks, his agent tells him everything is set for him to go to Miami for an interview, but he must leave on Christmas Eve. As part of his next segment, Michael interviews a widow named Mia and her son, Cruz. They tell him how Cruz shoveled the driveways for seventeen neighbors for free. After the segment’s over, Michael greets his daughter, Daphne, and introduces her to Mia and Cruz.
Michael and Daphne go to a diner, where he breaks the news about Miami to her. They run into Mia and Cruz. At Cruz’s request, he and Daphne grab the last child’s Christmas wish list on a Christmas tree in the diner. Cruz and Daphne read the list and realize that one of the items on it is a golden glider, which is the most popular Christmas toy. Mia and Michael make it their mission to find a golden glider before Christmas.
CHASING CHRISTMAS is a fun Christmas romantic adventure with first-rate directing, editing and acting. It has splendid cinematography and important close-ups for the more emotional scenes. Also, it has a beautiful story, with some humor, about family, priorities and generosity. Viewers will appreciate the movie’s sweetness and a surprising twist. This movie charms from beginning to end. The only downside is that the divorce element is underexplored and justified.
Trevor Donovan delights as Michael, and it is nice to see him come back for another movie after his role in CHRISTMAS AT THE INN. This time around, he plays a divorced father who tries to make time for his daughter during the Christmas season. Jillian Murray gives a lovely performance as Mia who has a structured, stick-to-the schedule mentality. Cleary Herzlinger gives a stellar performance as Daphne. She shows excitement without coming across as over-the-top. Dominic Lopez gives a natural and earnest performance as Cruz. Kathleen M. Darcy, also from CHRISTMAS AT THE INN, does a good job here as well as a waitress at a diner. Finally, Allen Enlow also gives an endearing and kind performance as a man who gives Daphne and Cruz the angel wish list.
