WNBA star Paige Bueckers can’t wait to share her holiday break with family and friends, playing games and watching Christmas classics.

“I’m excited to get to spend the holiday with my family. We put up the Christmas tree together and play a ton of board games and card games. Some of my family’s favorites are Skyjo, Uno, Sorry! and Yahtzee. We also watch seasonal movies. ELF is probably my favorite,” the point guard told the New York Post.

“Some of my favorite dishes are creamed corn, mashed potatoes, Snickers salad and honey ham. I do not prepare any of the dishes, but I’m still confident I can get it done!” she continued.

Bueckers is eager to get her second year in the league started. In year one, the 6-foot Dallas Wings point guard averaged 19.2 points, four rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game. She also secured the WNBA Rookie of the Year award.

The athlete is very vocal about her faith. In her Instagram bio, she includes Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

She clung to that promise as she recovered from a torn ACL a few years ago.

“It’s so so crazy because you work so hard to get back healthy, you feel stronger than ever, and you are playing your best basketball and with one sudden movement it all shifts,” she shared. “It’s hard trying to make sense of it all now but I can’t help but think that God is using me as a testimony as to how much you can overcome with Him by your side.

“There is going to be good days and there is going to be bad days but my absolute love for the game and Godly strength will get me back to where I need to be,” she continued. “…God put a dream in my heart and even if I have to walk through a nightmare to get it I’m going to keep believing.”

After her rookie season wrapped, she reflected on God’s faithfulness.

“Thank you God for an amazing rookie year🙏🏼Process over results,” Bueckers shared in a post on social media. “Unconditional joy and gratitude, so much to be thankful for. Love my squad, they all deserve Teammates of the Year in my book, nothing is possible without them🤞🏼Now let’s keep on keeping on. Go wings!”

She concluded the post with Proverbs 16:9, which reads, “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.”

Since Bueckers’ pro athlete career is filled with practice, workouts, recovery, meetings, travel and more, she can’t wait to enjoy some downtime with her family this Christmas.
