Top Hollywood Executives, Producers and Talent Help MOVIEGUIDE® Honor Family-Friendly, Redemptive Movies with Strong Christian, Moral Content

By Dr. Tom Snyder, Editor

A packed house of Hollywood stars and celebrities joined with top Hollywood executives, producers, filmmakers, and television artists to celebrate the most inspiring, family-friendly movies and television programs of 2017 at the 26th Annual MOVIEGUIDE® Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry.

The event was held Feb. 2 in the sparkling Grand Ballroom of the Universal Hilton Hotel near the heart of Hollywood.

Many of the entertainment industry’s top movers and shakers and celebrities, along with friends and supporters of the Gala and MOVIEGUIDE®, came to find out the winners of the $25,000 Ware Foundation Prize for Best Movie for Families, the Ten Best 2017 Movies for Families and for Mature Audiences, the Christie Peters Grace Award for Most Inspiring Movie Performances of 2017, the Faith & Freedom Awards for Promoting Positive American Values in Movies and TV, the $15,000 Kairos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays by First-Time and Beginning Screenwriters and the $15,000 Kairos Pro Prize for Inspiring Screenplays by Established Filmmakers, the Jeannette Clift George Visionary Award, and the prestigious Epiphany Prizes for Most Inspiring Movie and TV Program of 2017.

More than 450 people attended the event.

MOVIEGUIDE® is the host of the Gala and Annual Report, but we couldn’t have done it without help from many sources.

The affair was supported by major grants from the Cawood Foundation, the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, the Ware Foundation, the Huston Foundation, the Timothy Plan, the Diana Davis Spencer Foundation, the Sedwick Foundation, the Reese Foundation, LifeWay, the Cecil B. Day Foundation, the Christian Broadcasting Network, Pure Flix Entertainment, the Spaenaur Foundation, and hundreds of individual donors.

Celebrity attendees and honorees gathered on the Red Carpet before the Awards, which included a Gala banquet honoring the men and women who make the most family friendly, redemptive movies and television programs.

Emcee for the evening was Terry Crews, the star of BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS and THE EXPENDABLES franchise.

Also, included among the beautifully quaffed and handsomely garbed celebrities were legendary entertainer Pat Boone, Lou Diamond Philips, John Corbett, Bo Derek, Tatum O’Neal, David A.R. White, Caitlin Leahy, Joy Lenz, Hannah Zeile, Jennifer Taylor, Niles Fitch, Se’Darius Blain, Shane Harper, Annika Johnson, Danae Johnson, and Sasha Soumah.

The evening’s two musical highlights were performances by multiple Grammy winner CeCe Winans and singer Craig Campbell. Pat Boone gave the invocation prayer while Emcee Terry Crews and his wife, Rebecca King Crews, gave the benediction prayer.

Directing the Gala again this year was Michael Trent of Firefly Creative, who also produces the Gala with Robby Baehr.

All of the Gala honorees and attendees were given a gift bag after the ceremony. Included in the packet were:

The Annual Issue of MOVIEGUIDE® featuring the 2017 DVD Guide as well as the Best and Worst Movies of 2017, MOVIEGUIDE®’s 2018 Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry, Dr. Baehr’s new devotional book REEL TO REAL, Randy Alcorn’s Book MANAGING GOD’S MONEY courtesy of the Timothy Plan, the CSB Reader’s Bible from LifeWay, CeCe Winans’ new album LET THEM FALL IN LOVE, a $200 gift certificate to Bob’s Watches, and Community® Coffee Signature Blend ground coffee with mug.

A one-hour TV special featuring highlights from the 26th Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala will air Easter Sunday, April 1, on the REELZChannel at 4 pm Eastern Time and 1 pm Pacific Time, and will be rerun Monday, April 2, at Midnight Eastern Time and 9 pm Pacific Time.
