Kanye West Releases New Christian Album ‘Emmanuel,’ Celebrates Jesus Christ

By Movieguide® Staff

Outspoken Christian Kanye West established a tradition this year with his surprise EP release on Christmas Day, “Emmanuel.”

Last Christmas, West released “Jesus is Born,” which took the music community and West fans by surprise with its faith-filled themes. West’s track quickly climbed to No. 1 on the gospel charts.

“Emmanuel” is only a five-song track but echoes the word Emmanuel’s scriptural meaning: “God with us.”

“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us,” Matthew 1:23 (KJV) reads.

West produced and wrote the EP, which is about 12 minutes in length, to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

West started his Sunday Service events in 2019 after his conversion. The entrepreneur has been candid about his faith since and is vocal about his love for gospel choir renditions. His Sunday Service performances are often backed or led by a gospel choir to achieve a choral feel.

While controversial among Christian circles, West uses his consistently faith-themed releases to continue to point to his new life in Christ.

Since West’s conversion to gospel-orientated music, West has kept his promise to stray away from the foul language that marked his work in the past. In the process, West’s new focus on God and faith has not hurt his success.

Kanye West made history at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards with his faith-filled music. West is the first artist to win both Billboard’s Top Gospel Album and Top Christian Album awards with his Christian album Jesus is King.

“The controversial star won for both top gospel album and top Christian album for Jesus Is King. West is the first artist to win in both categories,” reported Billboard.

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards were held Wednesday, and West was nominated for nine Billboard awards. The 43-year-old entertainer took home four. West won all three of the Gospel categories including, Top Gospel Artist, Top Gospel Album, and Top Gospel Song for “Follow God.”

West also shows a desire to educate growing minds from a Christian perspective. Earlier this year, West revealed his plan  “to start a university for singers who want to worship God.”

In addition, West announced the start of a Christian academy for children.

Kanye West announced plans for a Christian academy and released the first trailer for Yeezy Christian Academy (YCA) via Twitter…

…’ Dear Future, I still believe in you. We still believe in you. We believe in our families,’ West’s children said. ‘In our future, we will heal. Our future has homes for everyone. Our future has food for everyone. Our future has love. Jesus loves everyone. Let’s lead with love! Our future is waiting on us!’ the kids continued.
