Sephora Joins Purge of Conservative Voices, Cuts Ties with Christian YouTuber Amanda Ensing

By Movieguide® Staff

The censorship of conservative voices has only increased in the weeks following the riots at the Capitol and the ban of former President Donald Trump from social media.

However, the censorship does not stop at Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The French makeup brand Sephora recently dissociated itself from its former partner, YouTube influencer Amanda Ensing, who starred in a promotional video published on Youtube.

Ensing is vocal about her Christian faith and conservative values on social media. However, Sephora severed ties with Ensing after commenters directed the makeup company to her tweets about the Jan. 6 riots.

The company responded to the complaints via Instagram. It claimed that they would no longer work with Ensing because her opinions do not “align” with Sephora’s “values around inclusivity.”

“Thank you for reaching out and bringing this to our attention,” Sephora wrote on Instagram. “We were made aware that Amanda Ensing, an influencer contracted through one of our external vendors’ campaigns, recently shared content on social media that is not aligned with Sephora’s values around inclusivity. As soon as we were informed, we made the decision to cease all programming with Amanda and will not be engaging her for future partnerships.”

Ensing, who has over 1.4 million subscribers on YouTube, does not shy away from her faith. On Jan. 6, Ensing was vocal about the future of America under President Joseph Biden.

“There’s not enough popcorn in the world for what’s about to happen,” Ensing tweeted, adding, “This is referring to the amount of corruption about to be revealed in our government. As usual, the left twists our words.”

While Ensing called for people to pray for peace and justice, shared several Bible verses, and maintained that she did not condone the violence at the Capitol, Sephora effectively canceled her from their brand after focussing on out of context posts.

“To clarify: this was NOT condoning violence at the Capitol. Violence is NEVER okay, no matter which party it is. I was referring to corruption I believe will be exposed in the coming weeks & would be set in stone after certification of a rigged election. That was not my intention,” Ensing tweeted.

Ensing responded to Sephora’s decision via a video on Facebook and claimed that she is “first and foremost, a Christian… secondly, American… and thirdly, Latina.”

“When did makeup become political?” Ensing asked.

Ensing also claimed that Sephora’s decision to cut ties over her political views were not written in her contract. Furthermore, Ensing claims that a Sephora representative assured her that they “do not discriminate against any political or religious group.”

“This is so much bigger than me getting paid,” Ensing said. “My mother did not come here from Puerto Rico and risk and sacrifice everything to live in the America that we’re living in right now, where you are silenced, censored, or denied work because of your political or religious views.”

Ensing continued: “But brands seem to still be working with them. Are you going to disaffiliate with every influencer who threatened violence against me in the last couple of months? Every influencer who mocked my faith and my religious beliefs? Or is it OK because they’re liberal or not conservative?”

Ensing noted that Sephora’s decision blatantly ignores the 75 million Americans who voted for former President Donald Trump.

“Do you think that conservatives don’t buy makeup, don’t wear makeup?” Ensing questioned. “Are we not worthy because you said we don’t align with your values of ‘inclusivity?’ Isolating millions of Americans because of their conservative political views from your store is the opposite of unity — the opposite of diversity.”

Sephora’s decision is further evidence that intellectual diversity falls by the wayside in the push for inclusivity.
