How God Revealed His Purpose for Former NFL Player Trent Shelton

Former NFL player Trent Shelton recently discussed how he found his purpose after speaking at a church service in 2011. Now a motivational speaker, he encourages others to live for God and his purpose for them.
After his son’s birth and his friend’s death from suicide, Shelton promised to “live the rest of my life in my purpose. My purpose was real to me my whole entire life, but I was so focused on what I wanted to do, I was blind to what God called me to do.”
Shelton had played for the then-Washington Redskins, Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks. But after several injuries, he had to give up football.
“It was devastating. I mean football was my everything, and so I always tell you ‘just imagine losing everything.’ At that point, I felt like I had nothing to live for,” he explained.
God, however, had other plans, and at a 2011 church service that a friend asked him to speak at, Shelton discovered God’s purpose for him.
“I didn’t want to speak,” Shelton told CBN News. “I tried to find all the ways out of it. I had stage fright, and in that moment, I felt peace in the midst of all these uncertain things, and I knew talking to these 5,000 kids, which seemed like 20,000, that this is what I was meant to do.”
Shelton explained his heart behind what he does, saying, “I just realized that everything I’ve been through was an experience, not just for myself, but also to help other people get through their situation in life. So your purpose is not just for you. It’s actually for other people.”
“God has a plan that’s way bigger than what you lost. God has a plan way bigger than what has set you back, and you got to believe that God will give you back better than what you lost,” he encouraged CBN News viewers. “The purpose that you pray for will be revealed to you, but you got to keep walking forward, and you can’t stay stagnant in your life.”
