VIRGIN RIVER Star Explores ‘Eternal,’ ‘Timeless’ Messages in New Movie

By Mallory Mattingly

VIRGIN RIVER star Benjamin Hollingsworth heads to the big screen with Karen Kingsbury’s THE CHRISTMAS RING.

The movie is based on the best-selling novel by Kingsbury, produced by Fathom Entertainment, and stars Jana Kramer, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Kelsey Grammer, Jessie James Decker & Debbie Winans.

“While searching for her family’s long-lost heirloom ring, a military widow meets a poetic antique dealer. The two forge a deep friendship that could become a breathtaking romance,” a synopsis of the film reads.

“It kind of is a nod to some of the movies we grew up with in the ’90s and early 2000s that explore those things that aren’t necessarily like slapstick comedy kind of stuff, but stuff that is more eternal and introspective and timeless in nature,” Hollingsworth said of THE CHRISTMAS RING.

THE CHRISTMAS RING debuts in theaters on November 6. Hollingsworth is grateful for the opportunity to star in a film that debuts in theaters because “a lot of people have stopped going to movie theaters and they watch movies from their couch with either themselves or their spouse or with their family, which is great, but they don’t get out of the house.”

“And I think that there’s something intentional about going to see a movie as a community. It’s similar to worship — you know, saying a prayer at home is different than going and saying a prayer with a hundred strangers. Like, it’s just different and it has a different feel to it,” he continued.

“And I think there’s that element to this too, where going through an experience and having these shared emotions is something that’s truly meant to be watched in a theater. And I’m hoping that people will get off their couches and go see this one because it is special,” Hollingsworth added.

THE CHRISTMAS RING film partnered with the Gary Sinise Foundation to help provide homes for wounded veterans.

“Donating ad space to the Gary Sinise Foundation was a privilege, as I can only hope that more people come to know and support this life-changing organization,” Kingsbury told PEOPLE. “By putting information about the GSF in front of moviegoers who see THE CHRISTMAS RING, we will expose millions more people to the work the Gary Sinise Foundation is doing. I’m so excited to see many more veterans helped through this partnership.”

“We partnered with the Gary Sinise Foundation because their team spends their lives giving back to those who gave it all for us,” she added. “Gary has a heart to help the men and women who have served our country. His team steps in where others have stepped out. They build houses for disabled vets and help families in a myriad of ways. His heart and mine are aligned in that now it is our time to honor them!”

THE CHRISTMAS RINGS hits theaters on November 6. Hollingsworth stars in this classic Christmas feel-good film that brings the community together.
