VANISHING ON 7TH STREET

"Stay in the Light"

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

VANISHING ON 7TH STREET is a surprisingly effective horror movie with some overt Christian themes. Two men in Detroit, a movie theater projectionist and a TV reporter, survive the sudden disappearance of everyone around them. Only the people’s clothes are left, and the daylight hours are getting less and less. At the same time, a mysterious darkness reaches out to them, trying to make them vanish. The two men make it to a small, well-lit neighborhood bar, which has a generator. There, they run into a little boy and a nurse. The boy’s mother, a bartender at the bar, went to find help at the church, but never returned. As the darkness approaches, the people decide to make a break for it by using a truck down the street. Meanwhile, the mysterious darkness closes in.

VANISHING ON 7TH STREET is very spooky and suspenseful. Better yet, it has some interesting Christian metaphors about staying in the light. And, the climactic scene takes place in the church, which has lit candles in it. However, there is too much strong foul language and many intense moments, so extreme caution is advised.

Content:

(CC, B, AB, LLL, VV, S, N, A, D, M) Strong, somewhat allegorical Christian worldview with moral elements where sanctuary from an evil darkness is found in a Christian church with candles, but one character questions another’s faith in God; about 28 obscenities (including many “f” words), five strong profanities and one light profanity; strong scary violence and intense moments include a wandering moving darkness makes people disappear and leave their clothes behind, people race to avoid the evil darkness, truck crashes into abandoned church door, lights often flicker in scary manner, shadows of vanished people lurk in the darkness but no explanation given; no sex scenes but man mentions his attraction to women two or more times; brief upper male nudity; alcohol use; smoking; and, some selfish attitudes but mostly rebuked.

Two men in Detroit, a movie theater projectionist and a TV reporter, survive the sudden disappearance of everyone around them. Only the people’s clothes are left, and the daylight hours are getting less and less. At the same time, a mysterious darkness reaches out to them, trying to grab them.

The two men make it to a small, well-lit neighborhood bar, which has a generator. There, they run into a little boy and a nurse. The boy’s mother, a bartender at the bar, went to find help at the church, but never returned.

As the darkness closes in, the people decide to make a break for it by using a truck down the street. Meanwhile, the mysterious darkness approaches.

VANISHING ON 7TH STREET is very spooky and suspenseful. Better yet, it has some wonderful Christian metaphors about staying in the light. And, the climactic scene takes place in the church, which has lit candles in it. The reason for the people’s disappearance is never really explained, however. There is also too much strong foul language and intense moments, so extreme caution is advised.

“This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”

– John 3:19-21 (NIV).
