More Detail:

STYLED WITH LOVE is a bouncy, lighthearted, good-natured romantic comedy on UPtv about a personal fashion stylist who comes to Chicago to start her own business and starts to fall for the photographer who helps her with marketing but is reluctant to admit her feelings for him. STYLED WITH LOVE is one of the better written, better acted UPtv offerings and contains light humor, appealing characters, strong dialogue, touching moments, and positive lessons about helping other people, kindness, family, personal growth, love, repentance, and forgiveness.

The movie opens with Rosie Pink (short for Pinkerton) packing to travel to Chicago, where she will open her own fashion styling business, with help from her friend, Mel. Rosie carefully packs a photo she took with her beloved grandmother, a seamstress who always supported Rosie’s fashion career goals. From her grandmother, Rosie has developed a passion for helping people.

In Chicago, Rosie’s best friend, helps her open her business. She suggests that Rosie contact her cousin, Jaxon with an “x,” a photographer, who can take some photos to put on her website and to promote the business. Rosie can also use the photos at the grand opening of her business in several weeks.

When Rosie meets Jaxon, he makes some snotty comments about the superficiality of the fashion business. So, Rosie decides to hire another photographer. However, Jaxon’s agent tells him he can’t work with him anymore, because Jaxon’s portfolio lacks personality. So, Jaxon comes to an agreement with Rosie. He will take photos of Rosie interacting with her customers that she can use to market her business, and he can use the photos to improve his portfolio and get his dream job.

The agreement works out well for both Rosie and Jaxon. While taking the photos, Jaxon is impressed with the personal interaction between Rosie and her clients. It really improves the look of his portfolio. Also, the photos attract the attention of a fashion magazine editor, who wants to use Rosie as her part-time fashion stylist.

Th editor promises Rosie she will have time to work on her own business. However, the promise doesn’t pan out. Rosie finds less time for planning the grand opening of her own styling business and less time to spend with Jaxon and her best friend. Also, Rosie is afraid to start a serious relationship with Jaxon, anyway, for fear that it will take her focus away from making her own business a success.

STYLED WITH LOVE is one of the better written, better acted UPtv offerings. The movie makes up for its seeming lack of jeopardy with good dialogue and appealing characters. The young heroine’s first encounter with the story’s romantic interest, the photographer, is a funny “meet cute” situation where the photographer denigrates the fashion industry as superficial and narcissistic, which the heroine perceives as a personal attack. Instead of having a romantic rival generate the story’s conflict, the story’s antagonist is the heroine’s own drive to be a success, which comes between her and her potential romantic partner. The heroine’s drive to succeed is represented by the female magazine editor who offers the heroine a chance to make a big splash in Chicago’s fashion scene.

Though it has no faith content, STYLED WITH LOVE has a strong moral worldview stressing helping others, personal growth and family. For example, the heroine is committed to helping other people become the best version of themselves not only through fashion but also through building their self-confidence, encouraging them to take risks, helping them overcome their fears, and teaching them to become a more well-rounded person. In effect, she’s become their life coach, not just their fashion advisor. The irony of the story is that the heroine learns she must apply her own advice to herself. She discovers she can’t sacrifice her personal and family relationships at the altar of career ambition and fame. Also, at the end, repentance and forgiveness solves the plot problem and leads to the movie’s touching happy ending.

Though the jeopardy in STYLED WITH LOVE seems a little on the light side, the movie’s conflict revolves around personal issues that can have just as much an impact on the human condition and on people’s lives as the worldwide struggle between good and evil. By promoting kindness, helping other people, becoming a fully rounded and mature human being, love, repentance, and forgiveness on a personal level, STYLED WITH LOVE makes a strong positive statement about the human condition. However, it does so in a breezy, lighthearted manner that never becomes pretentious, preachy or heavy-handed. That said, it would be a mistake to think of STYLED WITH LOVE as just another superficial, shallow romantic comedy.
