Christopher Lloyd Announces Premiere Of BACK TO THE FUTURE Musical

By Movieguide® Contributor

BACK TO THE FUTURE star Christopher Lloyd took part in a fun teaser to announce the musical version of the popular sci-fi movie is getting ready to hit Broadway.

The video, posted to the show’s Twitter account, shows Roger Bart, who plays Doc Brown in the Broadway show. He studies the DeLorean car that gets turned into a time machine.

“Looks like it’s got about 3 million miles on it and all this stainless steel,” Bart says, tapping the hood. “Great Scott! Can this thing really do 88?”

The camera then pans over to reveal Lloyd, who played Doc Brown in the original movie.

“Trust me,” he says.

“All right, I’ll take it for a test drive,” Bart responds. “The Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway. I’ll be back in no time.”

Lloyd replies, “I doubt it. I think you’re going to be at the Winter Garden for a long time.”

Previews for the musical will start in June of 2023. The show officially opens August 3, 2023. Presale tickets are available now, and general sale tickets will be available starting October 28.

This isn’t the only recent public appearance Lloyd has made. Movieguide® previously reported:

Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd reunited at New York Comic Con to talk all things BACK TO THE FUTURE, and the internet went crazy over a video of the pair hugging.

Fox and Lloyd starred as Marty McFly and Doc Brown, a pair of unlikely friends who end up traveling back in time. The movie was so popular, it spawned two sequels. A portion of Movieguide®’s review for BACK TO THE FUTURE II reads:

BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II is clever, witty and well executed. Both Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd lead the pack of great actors in what has become a cult classic franchise. The movie has a strong moral, pro-family worldview where the lead character chooses the wellbeing of his family over his own desires. It also contains some positive Christian elements. However, BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II has 46 obscenities and some violence. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.

Looking at the video of the duo’s hug, it’s clear Fox and Lloyd have nothing but fond memories of their time together on set.
