SESAME STREET’s Elmo and Abby Cadabby helped the Grand Ole Opry celebrate its 100th anniversary this year by co-hosting and performing.
Elmo performed a duet with Lauren Alaina and Abby performed with Tayla Lynn, ABC News reported.
“We sing all the time on ‘Sesame Street,’ but um, well, being able to sing in the home of country music is amazing!” Abby Cadabby told The Associated Press prior to the performance.
Over SESAME STREET’s 56 years, the puppets have sung with many country stars, including Lynn’s famous mom, Loretta Lynn, and Garth Brooks, Lee Ann Womack, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Thomas Rhett, Kane Brown, Johnny Cash, Mickey Guyton, Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton and more.
“Elmo got to wear his hat,” Elmo said of singing with Stapleton. “It was a little big for Elmo, but that’s OK. A really good time.”
Elmo was also excited to wear his cowboy outfit at the Grand Ole Opry.

“Elmo would love to do a duet with Miss Dolly Parton,” Elmo said. “Maybe we could do ‘Jolene’ together. Come on Dolly! Call Elmo!”
“Yeah! Or ‘Love is Like a Butterfly!’” Abby Cadabby said.
“Call us! We’re available!” Elmo said.
Elmo said he might like to sing about his pet rock, Rocco. Abby had other song ideas.
“A guitar-playing pickle picking in a pickle patch with a penguin eating pizza. Woo!” she said. “Maybe I’ll just sing about my friend Big Bird.”
“Elmo loves country music, too,” Elmo said. “Elmo loves the fiddle. Elmo loves to hear the fiddle. And Elmo loves to say fiddle.”
SESAME STREET’s Instagram page showed pictures of Abby and Elmo in front of the Opry, Elmo with Rocco inside the Opry, and the puppets performing on stage.
“Dreams really do come true. Elmo and Abby are so proud to have made their Grand Ole Opry debut! 🎶🤩❤️🎤 #SesameRoadTrip” the caption read.
The puppets appeared as part of their Road Trip Across America this year. The puppets and their friends visited NASCAR, Music City, state fairs, and professional baseball games.
The Grand Ole Opry is celebrating its 100th anniversary all year long.
“The most thrilling year in country music is here and we want to celebrate Opry 100 with you. All year long, we will have bigger shows, bolder moments, huge stars, and surprise guests, delivering a mix of your favorites and fresh sounds,” its website says. “Join us as we push the boundaries of country music and the Opry with our most ambitious and exciting shows yet.”
