Donny Osmond ‘Proud’ Of Son’s Appearance On CLAIM TO FAME

By Movieguide® Contributor

Donny Osmond is weighing in on his son Chris’ stint on reality show CLAIM TO FAME.

“For those of you who’ve been watching the ABC reality show, CLAIM TO FAME, I thought my son, Chris, did an amazing job!” the singer wrote on Instagram. “He made that show so interesting because no one could guess which celebrity he was related to. I’m proud of my son.”

Osmond then jokingly signed off as “Nicholas Cage. I mean, Elvis Presley. I mean, Jim Carrey. I mean, John Mayer. I mean, Elton John. I mean. Billy Idol. I mean, Little Richard. I mean, Ozzy Osbourne. I mean, Paul McCartney. I mean, John Travolta. I mean, Sting. I mean, Garth Brooks. I mean, Donny Osmond.”

Chris came in third place on the celebrity-connection guessing game show when fellow contestant Monay correctly named Osmond as his celebrity family member.

“Honestly, he’s been laughing his head off,” Chris told PEOPLE of his dad’s reaction to his time on CLAIM TO FAME. “We talk on the daily, and he’s been a good support, but he also has been laughing through it.”

Chris shared that growing up with a father in the entertainment industry meant “a lot of pressure” to live up to being an Osmond.

“He’s a very strong performer,” he explained. “He’s got an amazing voice and is a perfectionist, and I’m a perfectionist too, so I think that kind of got to me over the years of like, ‘Oh, I need to measure up to this guy.’ But doing this show made me realize, ‘Hey, I can be my own person. I’m Chris. Yes, I’m part of the Osmond family, but I have my own talent.’”

He continued, “That’s why I did this show in the first place: to have an experience on television in front of millions of people, which is daunting. It was a little scary for the first week or so, and then we kind of got into our rhythm, and I realized in the moment I’m like, ‘I can do this. This is fun.’”

Chris posted about his time on CLAIM TO FAME on Instagram, writing, “I’ve made so many great friends through this. It’s amazing to meet others that come from similar backgrounds of living in the shadow of someone else. It’s a story and perspective that hardly gets talked about, so I’m humbled and grateful this show allowed me to express who I truly am.”
