For Teddy Bear Award® winner Jim Caviezel, having his name in God’s heavenly book is all that matters.
Through tearful eyes, he shared this beautiful poem on TBN’s PRAISE:
Your name may not appear down here
In this world’s hall of fame.
In fact, you may be so unknown
That no one knows your name. The Oscars and the praise of men
May never come your way,
But don’t forget — God has rewards
That He will give one day. This crowd on earth will soon forget
When you’re no longer at the top.
They’ll cheer like mad while you still rise,
Then, once you fall, they’ll stop.Related: Jim Caviezel Describes One Simple Way to Deepen Your Relationship With Jesus
But God — He never does forget;
Within His hall of fame,
By simply trusting in His Son,
Forever stands your name.I tell you, friend, I would not trade
My name, though small it be,
That’s written there beyond the stars
For all eternity. For all the famous names on earth
And all their borrowed flair,
I’d rather be unknown down here
And have my name up there.
In 2020, Caviezel recalled sitting at the Academy Awards. He saw people winning awards while last year’s winners sat and watched.
“How quick glory vanishes,” he told The Christian Post. “It’s really not worth what we have waiting for us in heaven. Don’t make this your heaven.”
“You have to hold on to your convictions regardless of what and how much they offer. All money isn’t good. Some fame is infamous,” he said.
When Caviezel was a young man, he was in a movie theater when he felt that God had called him to become an actor. Since then, he’s played many faith-based roles, including Jesus in THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, one of the biggest movies in history.
One lesson he’s learned is the importance of building up faith.
“If you want to be a great athlete, there’s no pill you can take. You have to physically have sore muscles day in and day out,” he explained on the “Jesus Calling” podcast.
“It’s when you start realizing, ‘Hey, there’s a benefit to this soreness. Every time I get really sore, a few days later, I get stronger.’ And so you start to welcome the suffering because you know you’re going to get better. It’s the same way in our faith. The authenticity of our faith comes by the way of the cross,” he said.
He believes it is important that believers have a true connection with God that’s built on prayer.
“They say they’ll know that you are Christians by your love, but many of us don’t. And I think it has to do with the fact that we don’t pray from the heart.”
“We pray in the head. We give lip service rather than soul service,” he explained.
Currently, Caviezel is working on his next role in ARCHANGEL for Sony. In it, he’ll star as an ex-Green Beret weapons designer who relies on his skills to protect his neighbors in rural Wyoming.
