THE BRADY BUNCH star Barry Williams recently weighed in on what’s kept the family sitcom so popular, over 50 years later.

“This was a show asking, if there was a functioning family, what would it look like?” Williams said in an interview with Women’s Weekly. “And so there’s kind of that idealistic role model for people to see, okay, that’s a functioning family. The dad is helpful, and mom listens to the kids, and the kids, they have arguments but try to get along.”

He continued, “In fact, the whole show is about how do you get along? Coming from different places, the girls meeting the boys and the parents getting married, how do you make that work? And so we were ‘all for one and one for all. We had very good morals. I think in timeless kinds of morality, where honesty, truthfulness, good-naturedness, good intention, you know, wins out.”

Williams spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about what THE BRADY BUNCH’s legacy has meant to him over the years.

“It’s like having friends everywhere you go, because people generally have a positive experience of having watched the show or being fans. And so when they’re putting that together with us, it turns on a heartlight, I guess you could say,” he shared

The actor also remarked on the “chemistry” present between all the cast members, saying, “You cannot fake a chemistry. That is something that is there or it’s not.”

“But we genuinely have it for real and still do, hence we’re here. And that I think translated through the screen. People got that and felt it,” he added.

Williams recently revealed that, while he might have BRADY BUNCH fans around the world, he didn’t make it a point to show the sitcom to his own children, Brandon, 20, and Samantha, 11.

“I have never watched a BRADY BUNCH episode with either one of them,” he said during an episode of “The Brady Bros” podcast. “I never introduced them to the series.”

He continued, “I just didn’t feel that I wanted to throw that element into the mix until they kind of discovered it for themselves. I know that neither one has seen all of the episodes.”

“I didn’t make a rule about it either, you know, if they wanted to watch it,” Williams said. “And I thought that was kind of a nice introduction. It’s not easy for kids to grow up with someone who’s recognizable or been on TV a lot.”

THE BRADY BUNCH’s timeless stories of family, friendship and kindness have kept the show popular decades after its premiere.
