Willie and Korie Robertson recently reflected on the enduring popularity of DUCK DYNASTY, pointing to its “hopeful and positive” family stories.

“All these people were just finding relatability [in DUCK DYNASTY], which I don’t think they found a lot of that when you watch other TV or even reality shows,” Willie said while appearing on “The Sage Steele Show” podcast.

He explained that the show was popular with people who could relate to the story lines, while also “appealing” to the people who were unfamiliar with “living off the land and eating squirrels and catching frogs.”

“The nature of it was very funny, and that’s so hard to get. It’s hard to make stuff funny,” Willie said, joking, “I mean, look at most TV.”

He added, “A&E didn’t realize — they didn’t know it was going to be funny. They thought it was going to be like SWAMP PEOPLE.”

Korie agreed, sharing a story of an unsuccessful meeting with a production team where they were pitched an episode with an exaggerated rural storyline, including “varmints” and “womenfolk” waiting for the men to come back from hunting.

“I was like, ‘I’m not these womenfolk.’ Like, I think you got the wrong show, the wrong family,” Korie laughed

They ended up finding their groove with the production team, leading to multiple seasons of DUCK DYNASTY, as well as the revival series.

“I think people were looking for something…hopeful and positive and that the whole family could sit down and watch,” Korie said of the show’s popularity. “It was intergenerational. It was funny for everyone, it was clean, it was wholesome, and it was something that people were like, ‘Oh, this is what we were actually looking for and didn’t even know we wanted.’”

Speaking to Fox News about the upcoming season of DUCK DYNASTY: THE REVIVAL, Willie shared that they are committed to continuing to share family values.

“I think right now — I think it’s important for the country to see a family, to see a healthy family and to see joy in the things that come out of our family,” he said. “We certainly saw that before with our family, where so many people would come to us and just say, ‘Thank you for putting that on.’ Maybe we can’t all live by each other. We can’t all sit together and have a prayer at the end of a meal. But we love seeing that. It helps encourage us. And so I think in these times — I think that can be helpful.”

In an interview with Relevant Magazine, Willie added, “Hopefully people can find some joy in [the show] — even if it comes with a side of nonsense.”

DUCK DYNASTY’s enduring success continues to prove that TV viewers want uplifting and wholesome entertainment options.
