Disney Announces THE SANTA CLAUSES Season 2 Release Date

By Movieguide® Contributor

Tim Allen’s THE SANTA CLAUSES will return for its second season, hitting Disney+ on November 8.

Season two returns with “the Calvin family back at the North Pole, as Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) continues his role as Santa Claus after his retirement plans were thwarted when he failed to find a worthy successor in season one,” Disney revealed in a press release.

“Now that Scott and his family have successfully saved Christmas, Scott turns his focus towards training his son Cal (Austin Kane) to eventually take over the ‘family business’ as Santa Claus,” the statement concluded.

This season sees many actors reprise their roles.

Tim Allen stars as Santa/Scott Calvin, Elizabeth Mitchell as Mrs. Claus/Carol, Austin Kane as Cal Calvin Claus, Elizabeth Allen-Dick as Sandra Calvin Claus, Devin Bright as Noel, Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias as Kris Kringle, Eric Stonestreet as Magnus Antas aka The Mad Santa.

Recurring guest stars Matilda Lawler, Marta Kessler, Liam Kyle and San Giacomo will also return as Betty, Olga, Gary, and the Christmas Witch, respectively.

Season one of THE SANTA CLAUSES drew in many viewers and ranked among Disney+’s top 5 most-watched original series during November and December last year. Part of this popularity came from the series’ commitment to morality and even Christianity, which was infused throughout the show.

“[Season One] originally had a lot of otherworldly characters, and ghosts, and goblins,” Allen told The Wrap. “I said no, this is Christ-mas. It’s Christ-mas. It literally is a religious holiday.”

“We don’t have to blow trumpets, but I do want you to acknowledge it. That’s what this is about. If you want to get into Santa Claus, you’re gonna have to go back to history, and it’s all about religion,” he continued.

Part of Movieguide®’s review for season one reads:

THE SANTA CLAUSES: Chapter One begins with almost too much similarity and too many parallels to the previous movies. However, a modernized, time relevant aspect is added to every-thing, even the program’s view of Christmas. The nostalgia is heartwarming, luring in lovers of the previous movies. The first episode of THE SANTA CLAUSES promotes family and love, but it has an overarching pagan worldview suggesting there can be no Christmas without Santa. So, MOVIEGUIDE advises caution for older children.

Season two will debut on Wednesday, November 8, with a two-episode premiere, followed by new episodes weekly.

Movieguide® previously reported:

Fans of THE SANTA CLAUSES were pleasantly surprised by the religious storyline in a recent episode of the Disney+ show.

THE SANTA CLAUSES is a continuation of the popular movie series, starring Tim Allen. Allen plays Scott Calvin, who takes on the role of Santa Claus. In the new series, he considers retirement and is seeking a replacement.

In the fifth episode of the series, Scott talks with St. Nicholas of Myra as he learns about the true origins of Santa Claus. Many fans loved learning more about the Catholic saint’s real-life history.
