Author Behind Upcoming Erwin Brothers Movie Says ‘Integrity to the Truth’ Marks Great Storytellers

By Movieguide® Contributor

Director and producer Andrew Erwin and author Eric Blehm recently discussed the importance of “integrity to the truth,” especially when telling someone else’s story.

“I’ve always thought the truth is stranger than fiction. I’ve never written fiction,” Blehm said while appearing on Erwin’s “The Storytellers” podcast. “I’ve always tried to be very honest in the writing, as far as giving both sides to a story.”

The author explained that it’s “such an honor” to get to “kind of cement someone’s place in history” through his writing, which means he’s dedicated to always writing the truth.

“The indelible mark of a great storyteller [is] integrity to the truth,” Blehm said. “Some people will say, ‘Don’t let the truth stand in the way of telling a good story.’ I don’t buy it. I would rather be able to stand behind every sentence in a book.”

One of his books, “Fearless: The Undaunted Courage and Ultimate Sacrifice of Navy SEAL Team SIX Operator Adam Brown,” is being made into a movie in partnership with Erwin’s Kingdom Story Company.

“It’s just been a privilege to be on that journey with you,” Erwin said of their work to bring Brown’s story to the big screen.

“We are tremendously honored to bring this story to life, and I can’t think of a better person to write this than Jason Hall,” Erwin said in a statement about the project. “We are all honored by the trust the Brown family has placed in us to tell this story.”

Per The Hollywood Reporter, “The film will adapt Blehm’s 2012 book about SEAL Team 6 commando Adam Brown, a Navy SEAL who overcame struggles, including drug addiction and jail time, to become a member of the elite SEAL team best known for killing Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the movie:

The Erwin Brothers’ Kingdom Story Company has acquired the rights to produce Fearless, by Eric Blehm, the true story of Navy SEAL Adam Brown.

“The book by @ericblehmofficial shattered me. Those of you who’ve read it know exactly what I mean. Adam Brown was a great American and the purest picture of redemption I’ve experienced. It’s beyond important to us to do Adam, his family, and his SEAL brothers justice in this film. Honored to get back to work! #Fearless,” Andrew Erwin wrote in a July 13 Instagram post.

Several of the Erwin Brothers’ movies have won Movieguide® awards in the past. I STILL BELIEVE won the 2021 Epiphany Prize for Inspiring Movies, and I CAN ONLY IMAGINE took home the 2019 Epiphany Prize for Inspiring Movies.

For this newest endeavor, Erwin explains that he had been “chasing” this story for four years since his friend Gary Sinise shared it with him.
