VIRGIN RIVER’s Benjamin Hollingsworth’s holiday plans are so charming, they’ll knock your socks off.

“This year, we’re getting my whole family together,” Hollingsworth told Country Living on Dec. 11. “I’ve got three siblings and they have their own kids now. My sister’s got two kids and my younger sister and younger brother each have brand new children, so we rented this big house and we’re all going to stay in it for Christmas Eve, Christmas, and the day after. It should be a lot of fun.”

Hollingsworth and his wife, Nila, have three kids.

One of his favorite traditions is happy, messy chaos.

“We make Christmas cookies, which always turns into a disaster, but is a lot of fun. If you don’t eat cookie dough when you’re making cookies, you’re doing it all wrong. I think only half the cookies get out alive or make it into the oven,” he joked.

He and his wife put a lot of effort into Christmas for their kids; present-wrapping and cookies are just part of it.

“And we go cut down our own Christmas tree, which we’re doing this weekend,” he said. “The key is to bring a big tarp because if you drag the Christmas tree back without one underneath, it brings the forest with it – all the mud, bugs and everything! I also have this harness I put on, then attach the tree to. I’ve got it all figured out!”

He added, “We’re reminding them that Christmas is about more than presents, candy and stockings. It’s about tobogganing or family activities like singing Christmas carols. Those are the things they’ll remember.”

Hollingsworth recently starred in THE CHRISTMAS RING, which is based off Karen Kingsbury’s book. The author also produced the movie.

She “is super-kind, sweet and generous,” Hollingsworth said. “If you imagine what Mrs. Claus would be, that’s her! She was always coming around with food and making sure everyone was taken care of, so it was a great set to bring [my kids] to [set].”

In 2021, the family man told Parents, “I can’t think of anything or anyone I could love more than my family. Regardless of the relentless chaotic catastrophe I’m constantly surrounded by, I can’t help but find myself squeezing them, smelling their hair and kissing them.”

“I always try to teach my children to be thankful, grateful, and most of all to never give up,” he said in 2022. “If you give up on something, you’ve conceded to failure. I try to teach them to try new things, learn new things, and never quit. The best part of life is the moments in between the successes.”

His movie, THE CHRISTMAS RING, is available to stream on Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango.
