Kathie Lee Gifford shared one aspect of Christmas that Christians get wrong and shared why finding hope in Jesus makes the holiday such a special time.

“Jesus was not born in December. Jesus was conceived in December during Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. What did He say? ‘I am the light of the world. The ones who follow me will not stumble in darkness, but have the light of life,’” Gifford told CBN.

“Jesus is our only Hope,” the TV personality continued, explaining what makes the Christmas celebration so special. “I want people to understand that there’s so much immeasurably more for them in their walk with Jesus…But, you’ve got to study. You got to do work. He said to John, ‘the thief comes to kill and steal and destroy, but I, Jesus, have come that you might have life and life more abundantly.’”

Gifford’s desire to have others understand just how joyful a life with Jesus is has led her to many projects. She has made many trips to the Holy Land throughout her life to better understand the story of the Bible, and in 2022, she created a musical production THE WAY which revealed the transforming power of the Lord.

“It’s so profoundly beautiful because [Nicole C. Mullen] is so profoundly beautiful,” Gifford said of THE WAY. “And it worked and people just reacted to it like crazy. And I initially thought it would be something that she could use in her performances, which she does a lot of symphony concerts, but the reaction and the millions and millions of people that watched it and were totally moved and transformed by it, the Lord just spoke to me and said, Kathie, ‘do more, do more.’”

THE WAY was a particularly special project as it was Gifford’s first time directing.

“I’ve never directed before and I felt like the Lord saying, ‘Now’s the time. Now, you’re no longer cast,’” she told Movieguide®. “I just kept moving on to the next thing, grateful to God for His faithfulness. But when I took Nicole to Israel for five days, and we shot the ‘God Who Sees,’ it was an absolute turning point for me. It was a moment of ‘Oh my Lord, this is why I was born.’ I’d wanted to be an actress, a singer and a writer all my life. I am all those things, but directing it all, in something that I’ve written to bring to a motion picture screen? I said, ‘Lord, really?’”

As we continue to celebrate the Christmas season and the coming of Christ, it is important to remember just how much of a gift it is that Christians are a part of the Lord’s family and get to live life within his joy.
