Here’s How God Protects Jim Caviezel from Dark Roles

Actor Jim Caviezel says his faith gives him protection when he immerses himself in darker roles.
“I don’t go to the devil to play the devil,” Caviezel said during an interview with Jordan B. Peterson. “I think many actors make that mistake. Go to God to tell you who the devil is. That’s what I do, and it also gives me protection.”
The actor explained that “if you go to the devil to play the devil, the devil will deceive you and put something up there that deceives the public,” adding, “He’ll always try to hide in the shadow because he doesn’t like the light.”
In order to combat the darkness he sometimes has to face through his roles as an actor, Caviezel said he turns to the Bible.
“When I read the scripture, I feel truth,” he shared. “I find the good and just let that pierce the darkness.”
Some of his darker roles include THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST and SOUND OF FREEDOM, but Caviezel said that those parts also helped give him courage in his real life.
“Both films gave me the chance to play individuals who stood for only good and who were willing to make extreme sacrifices to try to help others, literally rescuing them,” he told Jetset Magazine. “It creates a humbling effect to carry the magnitude of these roles and I hope that I might have the courage in my life to make the right decisions, too, when tested.”
Caviezel has also spoken about the responsibility he feels to audiences.
“People [in the entertainment industry] are always saying, ‘Look, I’m not your kid’s role model.’ But that’s wrong,” he told Crosswalk. “I don’t care how you look at it; we’re all role models. And there’s a responsibility that comes with that.”

“Your name may not appear down here in this world’s hall of fame. In fact, you may be so unknown that no one knows your name,” the actor said on PRAISE on TBN. “The Oscars and the praise of men may never come your way, but don’t forget that God has rewards that He’ll hand out someday.
“This crowd on earth, they will soon forget you when you’re not at the top,” he continued. “They will cheer like mad until you fall, and then the praise will stop. Not God.”
God never forgets. Caviezel is certain those who believe in Jesus will have their names written in God’s hall of fame.
“I wouldn’t trade my name, however small, that’s written there, beyond the stars in that celestial hall for all the famous names on earth or the glory that they share. I’d rather be an unknown here and have my name up there,” he finished with conviction.
