Pastor Greg Laurie has an important message about prayer after visiting the White House last week.
“We just had the opportunity to be in the Rose Garden over at the White House for an observance of the National Day of Prayer,” Laurie began in a YouTube video on his channel on Sunday. “It was a fantastic time. There was beautiful worship and prayer for our nation.”
To Laurie’s surprise, he was asked to come into the Oval Office, where he met President Trump.
“We spoke with the president for a few moments, and he gave us all a commemorative coin, and it’s just fantastic. Now, whenever I post about the White House or Washington, people love to criticize, but look, this is our capital, and the White House is our house,” the pastor explained. “I would go to the White House if any president invited me, regardless of if I voted for them or not.”
Laurie explained he would pray for any president, regardless of what kind of person they are.
“We are commanded in scripture to pray for those that are in leadership over us. And I think that sometimes we get so caught up in our partisan ideas that we forget the big picture. We’re talking about prayer.”
He says there are two critical things that Christians can do for America: pray and share the gospel.
“That is the only thing that will change a person. That’s the only thing that can, in effect, change culture. And then that is the only thing that can, in its ultimate effect, change the nation,” Laurie said.
Laurie believes that America urgently needs prayer, and he sees “promising signs” that make him think that another spiritual revival could happen.
Laurie is viewed as one of the leaders of the spiritual awakening that happened in the ’70s, which is shown in the movie JESUS REVOLUTION. The movie won a Movieguide® Teddy Bear Award® for Best Movie for Mature Audiences last year.
“A lot of cultural shifts are happening right now. And it makes one wonder, is the Lord getting ready to pour his spirit out again? Let’s pray that happens,” he said.

On Laurie’s Instagram, he re-shared the video with 1 Timothy 2:1-2 in the caption: “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.”
On Thursday, he shared a template for prayer. It starts by calling God “father,” then praising God, aligning with His will, asking for needs, confessing sins and then asking for strength.
The National Day of Prayer is a reminder that we need to talk to God daily, not just about our personal lives but also about the place and future of where we call home.
