Christian artist and pastor Tauren Wells believes God gives athletes who embody meekness a special platform to further His kingdom.
Wells described meekness as the “sanctification of ego” during his recent appearance on the “Sports Spectrum” podcast.
“I really feel like there are individuals who have a sanctified ego, and I think that’s why God entrusts them with so much,” Wells told podcast host and former NFL star Matt Forte. “You know, like with yourself, the opportunities that you’ve had, the spaces that you’ve been in, it’s because God is not just looking for talent. He’s not just looking for brute strength. He’s looking for pure strength. He’s looking for people that can actually handle the weight of it.”
“And I think that’s why guys like yourself, guys like Steph [Curry], they inherit the earth,” the singer continued. “They get to experience the richness of what God has given us to enjoy here, because you can be trusted.”
God has blessed Wells with a platform, too, and the pastor just celebrated the release late last month of his new book, Joy Bomb: Unleash Jesus’s Explosive Joy for an Extraordinary Life.
The book is “biblically rooted” and “exuberantly hope-filled.” It includes:
- Eight life-changing ways to reorient our lives toward joy
- Understanding why joy is not dependent on our emotional state or the state of the world
- What attitudes or behaviors keep us from experiencing God’s joy
- How we can become freer in worship, life, and our relationship with God
- Why Jesus’ ways of living don’t just create warm fuzzies but create joy deep within us
In just the second week of its release, Joy Bomb shot to the top of the charts, holding the No. 2 spot in the “Religion and Spirituality” list and the No. 1 spot for “Christian Books and Bibles.”
“I’m not okay…Starting week 2 of Joy Bomb off with a bang 🤯🤯” Wells posted on Instagram. “THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL THE SUPPORT!! Literally not possible without you all spreading the word.”
Wells believes that his book “isn’t just another book to sit on your shelf, it’s a message to shift your heart by shattering all the lies we’ve been told about joy and happiness,” he shared on social media. “Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing more and more, but take my word for it, your joy is under attack and it’s time to fight back.”
Whether athletes, singers or everyday people, God will certainly use those who allow Him to sanctify their egos.
