John Cena will enter the wrestling ring for the last time this December.

WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque said, “John’s contributions to WWE are immeasurable. There are no words that can truly relay how much he means to this business. Together with our partners at Events DC and Capital One Arena, we look forward to honoring his legacy and delivering an unforgettable send-off for both John and the WWE Universe.”

Cena announced his retirement last year during a wrestling event, telling the audience, “Thank you so much for letting me play in the house that you built for so many years. Thank you so much always for your voice, because it’s really loud, and your honesty, because it’s beautifully brutal.”

It’s still unknown who Cena will be facing off with in his final match, but the wrestler has promised to give it his all.

“I’ve been doing this for 23 years, and I’ve never once chosen my opponent,” he told the Boston Herald. “I’ve always lived by the philosophy that life will give you opportunities every single day, and you have to do the best you can every single day with what life gives you. So whoever challenges me for that last match, I’m going to give it my best shot.”

The wrestler and actor has been open about the reasons behind his decision to end his WWE career, telling WWE exec Stephanie McMahon, “A schedule like I was doing in 2013 would destroy me right now. It will ruin me and ruin my relationship, and that’s the tip of my spear. So I gotta close a chapter, that’s it.”

Cena shared that he wants to spend more time with his wife, engineer Shay Shariatzadeh. The pair tied the knot in 2020 after a year of dating.

In a 2024 appearance on ARMCHAIR EXPERT, he said, “I travel with my wife. We go everywhere together. I certainly value her safety and well-being. One of the promises I made to her on the altar was, ‘I will never put you or I’ll do my best to not put you in undue harm’s way.’”

Wrestling fans are sad to see the superstar leave the ring, but Cena seems more than ready to close the door on this part of his life and start a new chapter.
