Neal McDonough Believes Doing This Could Change the World

Movieguide® interviews Neal McDonough at the HOMESTEAD red carpet premiere.

By Kayla DeKraker

Actor Neal McDonough believes kindness and seeing others the way God does could solve many of the world’s problems.

“If God created us all, and we are all God’s children, that makes us all brothers and sisters — no matter what your race, your creed, your religion, your beliefs are, how much money you have, how much money you don’t have, we’re all brothers and sisters,” THE LAST RODEO actor told Crosswalk Headlines. “And if we just start to root for each other a little bit more, wouldn’t the world be a much better place?”

His comments come as he promotes his next movie, GUNS & MOSES.

The new film follows Rabbi Moshe “Mo” Zaltzman as he works to solve a sniper attack which occurred at an annual fundraiser for his synagogue.

The synopsis reads, “Rabbi Mo doesn’t think the kid did it. Yes, he seems to be a neo-nazi, but when Mo introduced him to holocaust survivor Mr. Fassbinder, the kid was visibly moved.” As he discovers more, “He digs deeper, but his hidden adversary turns Mo into a hated villain. Against all odds, Mo must unlock the web of deceit, leading to a shocking reveal and the battle royale.”

McDonough emphasized that the movie’s main message is to learn from each other, even if we don’t agree on everything.

“We should start enjoying each other, learning from each other, and I think that’s the message for this film, and that’s the message that is so important, especially right now,” he added.

He noted that “in this day and age…there’s such a mess going on — politically, spiritually, [no matter] what religion you are, what country you’re from, all the different beliefs,” and that’s exactly why it’s important to be humble and ready to learn.

“If we stopped and thought for a second, all right, let’s break bread with the people that we think we don’t really like. Let’s figure out why we’re enemies. At the end of the day, breaking bread and sitting around with other people, we realize: Why are we enemies? ‘I can’t really remember why — but it’s been taught to me from generation to generation that we’re supposed to dislike these other people,’” he added.

The actor explained that films about God and faith, like GUNS & MOSES, are very important to him.

“I love films like this. You know, they talk about God, they talk about faith, they talk about, okay, what is your place here, and what are you supposed to do with each other? And I’m very proud to be part of a film like GUNS & MOSES.”

Last month, McDonough shared a trailer for the movie on Instagram.

People in the comment section expressed their excitement.

“Look forward to seeing this movie, great actor,” one person said. Another fan added, “This looks so good and timely. Thank you for the brilliant work you do.”

McDonough’s work and heart for GUNS & MOSES remind us of the importance of having faith-based films that handle difficult and relevant topics.

It opens in theaters on July 18.
