Glen Powell turned Texas football’s fifth-year linebacker Marshall Landwehr’s dreams into a reality when the actor surprised the athlete the news that he was getting a full scholarship.
“What’s up, Longhorns? It’s Glen Powell, fellow Texas alum,” Powell said in a video shown at a team meeting. “I have newfound respect for what it takes to join a football team. It takes grit. It takes grind. And most importantly, it takes heart. Marshall, your hard work has not gone unnoticed. That’s why Texas is giving you a scholarship.”
The camera immediately cut to Landwehr, who couldn’t believe the news. The linebacker’s teammates then swarmed him in celebration.
Hard work pays off.
Congrats @marshlandwehr, you’re now on scholarship! 🤘

“When we talk about everybody in this room has a role in the organization, this is the epitome of that,” head coach Steve Sarkisian said to Landwehr. “I couldn’t be more fired up for you, man. Congratulations!”
According to PEOPLE, Landwehr “went to Highland Park High School — the same school that world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler and Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford attended.”
“Y’all are part of the biggest reason why I show up every day,” Landwehr said of his teammates. “Been doing this for five years, It doesn’t get old, keep working. This is the dream, man.”
While Powell isn’t a football player, he plays one in Hulu’s upcoming comedy CHAD POWERS, debuting next month.
The series follows “a disgraced college quarterback named Russ Holliday [who] disguises himself as Chad Powers and walks onto a struggling southern football team to revive his football career.”
According to Deadline, the “half-hour comedy from 20th Television is based on the sketch produced by NFL Films and Omaha Productions that aired on ESPN+ as part of the ELI’S PLACE series. Powell and Waldron co-wrote the pilot.”
Aside from Powell, the cast includes “Perry Mattfeld as Ricky, Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd, Wynn Everett as Tricia, Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny, and Steve Zahn as Jake Hudson.”
CHAD POWERS will release the first two episodes on Sept. 30, with all other episodes releasing every week after.
The Texas Longhorns will take the field against the reigning National Champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes, on Aug. 30.
