Melissa Joan Hart makes faith the center of her world, rooting her family and personal life in the Lord rather than the shifting tides of fame.
“Faith is the center of our family, of my marriage,” Hart told Fox News. “We love going to church every Sunday as a family. I love my Sunday school class, where we have fellowship. And I love going to women’s Bible study on Wednesdays.”
“My kids have gone to a Christian preschool. And now, in high school, they are going to a Christian high school,” she added. “My son just decided he was going to get baptized. They were all baptized as babies, because I was raised Catholic. But now we go to a Baptist church, and my middle child decided he wanted to be baptized. And it was just such a special moment.”

By placing her foundation in the Lord, Hart has chosen to forgo some career opportunities because she understands that some things are more important – such as her family. For a while, she tried to keep her kids from the dangers of LA but eventually decided to move her family out to the city so they could spend more time together.
“So it was all sort of, like, year by year, sort of: Where should we be? How are we gonna do this as a family?” Hart explained. “And making decisions about my career, balancing out with our family. And, you know, sometimes I turned down jobs just to stay at home and just so the kids could be at home, or sometimes I would leave for chunks of time, which was heartbreaking and really hard for me.”
Now that her kids are getting older, Hart focuses on teaching them what it means to have a personal relationship with the Lord, so they will have a strong foundation before they leave for college. To her, this looks like getting them involved in missions work so they can see the impact of the gospel around the world.
“I think this is so important for our boys to see the work that World Vision does, to see that there are other parts of the world that are struggling, other parts of the world that are able to be developed and enriched and that that we can do so much good with our time, our energy, our money, to be able to help out people in need so far away,” she said after a family trip to Zambia. “I think it’s crucial to show our kids good charitable works.”
Though Hart didn’t take her faith as seriously when she first got to Hollywood, it is amazing to see how she makes it the number one priority, not only in her own life, but in her family’s life as well.
