Donnie Wahlberg discussed how he viewed religion as a child and how understanding Christianity centered around a relationship rather than a set of rules encouraged him to devote his life to Christ.

“Church as a kid didn’t help me plug in, right. I could go to church and feel good. I would be happy when I went to church, but I fe[lt] like I was performing a good deed, you know. I wasn’t going there and truly understanding,” Wahlberg told podcaster George Janko.

“Religion in my life [was] and many people, I think, for many people [religion] is about rules, restrictions, regulations, right? And I think Christianity in itself is faith, obedience, right? But I think that obedience comes…” the BOSTON BLUE star added. “It’s a joyous sacrifice. It’s not a rule, like, you will never listen to this again. It just kind of happens. Because I want to build the relationship.”

Because of this grounded faith, Wahlberg isn’t afraid to use his platform to share the gospel and encourage their fans to root their life in the Lord. Much like his brother Mark Wahlberg, he will often share Bible encouragements on social media to help point his fans to truth.

“There is one phrase in the Bible that’s repeated 365 times. Do you know what it is? ‘Do not be afraid!’” Wahlberg previously shared on Instagram. “To whomever is struggling with fear today, I know a 15-second reel may not change your life. I also know that it’s not easy to live without fear, worry or anxiety. “That said, if this reel can give you a little boost, a little bit of hope or even ease your worry for a brief 15 seconds — then it’s worth me sharing! Hang in there! You will make it through — you always do! Sending love your way.”

Wahlberg has also shared how centering himself on the Lord has been the best thing he could do for his marriage as he and his wife, Jenny McCarthy, are unified through Christ. Because of this, he also puts his family above his career, something he believes many in Hollywood do not do – resulting in marital problems.

“Our relationship is at the center of our lives,” Wahlberg told Fox News last year. “You know, we put the relationship first and the career second. And whenever we do that, our careers, more good things into our careers because we put each other first, right?”

“I think that’s probably where a lot of Hollywood couples go wrong, is they put Hollywood first or their careers first, and they put the relationship second,” he continued. “We put the relationship first. And in doing that, every decision we make is based on how is it going to impact our family? How is it going to impact our relationship?”

Praise the Lord for Wahlberg’s strong faith and his courage to make it front and center in his life, sharing it with millions of fans every day.
