New England Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson played for a bigger purpose Monday night.
For his team’s matchup against the New York Jets, Henderson partnered with Global Christian Relief for the NFL My Cause My Cleats campaign to “honor Persecuted Christians around the world.”
“Many persecuted Christians have lost their lives, family members, their homes, some have lost everything. However, persecuted Christians continue to show perseverance and unwavering faith,” Henderson wrote on Instagram.
The Global Christian Relief organization said, “Henderson stands with the persecuted church because their courage fuels his own. Connect with this same family and let their resilience challenge you, too.”

The cleats are red and white and feature blood drops, raised crosses, a Bible verse, praying hands and the global map. Each symbol on the cleats represents the cause Henderson played for.
The blood drops symbolized two things: “The blood Christ shed on the cross, and the blood of martyrs who lost their lives pursuing Him.”
Two figures are shown with raised crosses, symbolizing that no matter what people have gone through, they have not lost their faith.
The Bible verse is Matthew 5:10, which reads, “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
The praying hands are a reminder for people to “stop and pray for the persecuted church.”
Lastly, the global map is “a picture of where persecution burns the hottest, reminding us how many believers worship under pressure around the world.” It highlights places like China and South East Asia, Central America and northern South America, and most of Africa.
Henderson told the Global Christian Relief organization, “They are losing their lives…Yet they’re staying faithful. Their faithfulness emboldens me to be bold here in the US.”
“Will you pray and help support our brothers and sisters who are suffering?” he asked on Instagram.
Standing up for his faith isn’t anything new for Henderson. He often writes about God on social media.
“I’m thankful that God’s love for me doesn’t depend on my performance. That my value is found in who I am to Him, not in what I do,” he posted a few weeks ago alongside Ephesians 1:4-7.
Praise God for how Henderson uses his platform to raise awareness about the persecuted church. Let’s join him and pray for our brothers and sisters who a suffering for their faith.
