Dyan Cannon, who was married to Hollywood legend Cary Grant, opened up about her tough journey to faith.

“I found a God who loves me through it all, even when I screw up, and I do that all the time,” she said.

“I became a movie star with my name above the title. I married a man who was like the most famous man in the world. And that was all good, but it was like a Band-Aid,” she shared on the podcast “God’s Table Hollywood.”

“I came from a home where there was a lot of turmoil,” she recalled. “It became a war. When I left home, I said, ‘I don’t want anything to do with You, God.”

Cannon grew up in a home with Jewish parents who believed in Jesus.

Eventually, she married Grant, who was 30 years older than her. He encouraged her to take drugs.

“He thought it was a gateway to God,” she said. “He thought it was going to help him find peace. I knew I shouldn’t do it, but I did it to please him and to save our marriage.”

When she got divorced, she did more drugs and had to stay in an institution. After a few months, a Christian woman began to minister to her, and she heard God speak to her.

“These are the words He said [to me]: ‘My precious child, you need not call as if I’m in the sky. I am the heart and soul of you. I am the reason why you step down into being. So everyone could see that I am one with you and you are one with me,” she recalled.

“‘For it is my master plan to bring the kingdom of Heaven and peace on earth to man. Haven’t I fed the multitudes, caused blinded eyes to see? Haven’t I shut the lion’s mouth and tenderly pacified the sea?”

God told her that He is as close as the breath she breathes.

“So look beyond your circumstance and not to a God in the sky…I am the reason why you stepped down into being so that everyone could see that I am one with you and you are one with me,” He said.

Cannon then began to heal from her trauma and grew close to Christ.

“Is it always easy? No. Life isn’t easy,” she explained. “So how do we deal with that? How do we get through that? Well, I’ve tried everything.”

“I’ve tried drugs. I’ve tried men. I’ve tried pills. I’ve tried everything,” she said.

“But they were like a Band-Aid that didn’t stick when I started to sweat. So, I had to find a platform, a faith, or a sounding board, something to stand on and base my thinking on. One that doesn’t change.”

Cannon told Fox News digital that her faith doesn’t come easily, but she won’t give it up.

The 88-year-old said, “It’s a platform for me to stand on when the world changes, and we’re put to the test.”

In 2023 she said, “Praying, that’s what keeps me straight.”

After years of searching, Cannon has something she can be grounded in — her faith and savior.
