The NCIS flagship just celebrated the creation of its 500th episode, which will air on March 17, 2026.

To commemorate the milestone, the cast posed with an impressive vertical 500 shaped cake that featured identical figurines of each of the cast members.

“Is it cake?” Brian Dietzen joked.

“Are we all edible?” Gary Cole joshed. “Apparently, we are.”

“Here I am, live and in sugar,” said Diona Reasonover.

It’s a big milestone, and it’s pretty exciting for the series, which is in its 23rd season. Only four live-action TV shows (THE SIMPSONS doesn’t count) have ever reached 500 episodes before, Screen Rant reported.

ET asked Wilmer Valderrama what he would like to hear or see 500 more times.

He said, “I think hearing my daughter say ‘Daddy’ 500 times. I can never get used to that.”

“I would like to go fishing around the world 500 times,” said Rocky Carroll. “That’s what I’ll do once I retire from NCIS.”

Sean Murray told Cinema Blend last month, “We’ve got new iterations of the show. We’re at this episode, it’s different than our usual [kind]. The fact that we’ve done 500 episodes and that we’re not just resting on our laurels or make something easy and digestible, we’re trying to do something different.”

Last year, the NCIS franchise as a whole celebrated its 1000th episode across all its spin-offs.

“In terms of a milestone, it’s sort of unfathomable to wrap your head around. I mean, anyone that’s been in the TV business for a long time, to get anything going is hard enough. To get something going that continues and seems to resonate with people is really kind of fantastic and I’m real proud to be a part of it,” said Murray.

Last month Murray told TV Insider, “We’ve got some really good stuff coming up. We really do. The 500th is going to be pretty b*******.”

He said his character, McGee, has some family news and old characters will make an appearance soon.

“We got that to look forward,” he shared. “Now I’m thinking about the plot of 500 and it’s so good. I’m sounding so dorky here. I’m very happy with our show right now. I’m very excited with where we are.”

There are some rumors that Ellie Bishop might return. And fans would be over the moon if Mark Harmon made an appearance.

The next NCIS episode, “Heaven and Nature,” will come out on Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. on CBS and Paramount+.
