Spotify just introduced a whole slate of new features.

Per Parade, the new user controls, which Spotify has already started to roll out, include:

  • Smart filters: This feature allows you to sort through saved content by activity, mood or genre.
  • Hide songs: You can now hide tracks that will be automatically skipped the next time you’re listening to a playlist that has that specific song on it.
  • Snooze songs for 30 days: You can now “snooze” any song for 30 days.
  • Discover Weekly genres: This allows you to create Discover Weekly playlists based on genre.
  • Queue controls: Premium Spotify users have improved function to shuffle, Smart Shuffle, repeat and sleep timer functionalities.

  • Playlist customization: There are upgrades to add, edit and sort playlists tracks, and playlist titles and cover art.
  • DJ updates: Spotify Premium members can ask their DJ for song requests by voice.

In August, it introduced a way for Premium users to mix favorite playlists by adding their own transitions.

“Spotify users around the world have soundtracked their everyday moments by creating nearly 9 billion playlists. Now, Premium users can take their creativity to the next level with the ability to add and customize transitions between tracks,” Spotify said. It allows “music lovers and playlist experts alike to easily create unique playlists. Seamlessly transition between tracks, customize how they flow together, and enhance your mix with features like volume, EQ, and effect curves.”

Mix options include sound styles like Auto, Fade and Rise.

Spotify also upgraded some features for its free users. Previously, free users could not play whatever tracks they wanted, whenever they wanted. They were restricted to shuffle only.

Now, they have the Pick and Play option, which lets them choose specific tracks. Free users may also search for any song and play it on-demand and immediately play any track that a friend shares with them, which was previously only available on desktop or a tablet.

“Whether you’ve previously tried Spotify or you’re a long-time streamer with our free experience, there’s a lot to love about these enhancements,” Spotify said of the free experience updates. “You now have more control over how you listen: Search and play any track or jump right into something your friend just shared.”

“Our goal is to help you get the most out of your music. We’re continuing to invest in making Spotify the best place for fans and creators to meet—no matter how they listen…,” it said. “We’ve made it as simple as possible to enjoy music and podcasts on our free experience, helping you discover new music or listen to an artist you love.”

For music fans, Spotify’s new features will make for an exciting listening experience.
