Former One Direction bandmates Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik will team up for a new travel documentary for Netflix.

“The series is a rare look inside the world of two of the most famous — and most private — men on the planet opening up about life, loss and fatherhood,” a synopsis provided by Malik and Tomlinson’s representatives reads

The Netflix show will be directed by Nicola Marsh, whose previous work includes Demi Lovato doc CHILD STAR, as well as SONG EXPLODER and STAY ON BOARD: THE LEO BAKER STORY.

The unnamed series will have three parts, showing the former boyband members traveling around America and reconnecting with each other. It’s also presumed they will discuss the recent death of their bandmate Liam Payne.

Payne passed away last year after falling from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires. He was 31 years old.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone UK, Tomlinson shared, “There’s still a level in my head [where it feels] unjust and frustrating that he’s not with us anymore. So, [One Direction’s recent 15th anniversary] just brought up those feelings, although I’m still living with them anyway.”

“It was really, really, impossibly difficult for me to deal with losing Liam,” he continued. “Naively, I thought that because at this point, I’m relatively well versed in grief for my age, that it might soften the blow. [That was] super-naive. It’s very different. I’ve never lost a friend before.”

When asked what he wishes fans knew about Payne that they didn’t already, Tomlinson answered, “He was just a very misunderstood person, I think, from a public perspective.”

“If there is ever any judgment on his character, I think nine times out of 10, you can reflect on that, and the reflection is that he was someone who just wanted to be liked,” he concluded.

Malik also released a statement shortly after Payne’s death, writing a letter to his deceased bandmate.

“I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain to you what I’d give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly,” he wrote. “I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever.”

The Netflix series is expected to premiere in 2026. Fans of One Direction are excited to see Malik and Tomlinson reunite, as well as hear the former bandmates’ reflections on their time in the boyband.
