Mark Wahlberg’s kids never pass up a chance to tease their famous father.

“My kids love making fun of me,” Wahlberg told PEOPLE. “They imitate me…they’ll do the Boston accent.”

The Massachusetts native shares Ella, 22, Michael, 19, Brendan, 17, and Grace, 15, with his wife of 16 years, Rhea Durham.

In a recent interview with GOOD MORNING AMERICA, the actor revealed his children “were interested” in his movie-making career during his “TRANSFORMERS days.”

“They wanted to come. They wanted to see the action. They wanted to see Bumblebee,” Wahlberg joked. “Now they’re like, ‘Dad, this is boring.’”

The family recently got together to celebrate the premiere of Wahlberg’s latest movie, PLAY DIRTY.

“It’s hard to get them all together these days,” Wahlberg said. “I’m so excited that all of my kids [are here], because my daughter’s been away at school, everybody’s kind of doing their own thing at this age. I really want to just spend time with them. So it’s great that we all got to get together, even if it’s just for the night.”

Speaking to GMA, he added, “You know, the biggest sacrifice with my job is being away from my family. So, to be able to have them come and share that and experience it and just spend time with me, you know, visit dad so I can see their faces.”

In PLAY DIRTY, Wahlberg and costar LaKeith Stanfield play thieves who are attempting to pull off a major heist.

“Mark showed up having memorized the script,” writer and director Shane Black told Variety. “He knew every nuance of it. He didn’t sit before, mumbling — he knew all the lines, so then you could vary from that. If someone wants to improv, and there were some people on the set who were particularly prone to that, Mark keeps up. Mark just jumps at it. He sees a chance to fire back.

Black continued, “That sort of being in the moment is what I like about Mark in particular, because as much preparation as he does, when he steps onto set, he lets go and is in the now. I think that’s an actor’s greatest asset: to let the previous work inform the performance, but not be thinking about it when you’re in the moment.”

Wahlberg might look cool in his latest action-movie role, but to his kids, he’s just their dad — and that’s how the actor likes it!
