While at the premiere of his newest movie, Dwyane Johnson discussed how parenting has made him much more selfless and expressed the joy he finds in being a “girl dad.”
“They taught me to be selfless,” Johnson told E! News. “I grew up an only child, and when you’re an only child, like me, I can’t speak for all only children out there, you think about yourself first.”
He’s dad to Simone, 24, who he shares with ex Dany Garcia, and Jasmine, 9, and Tiana, 6, who he parents with wife Lauren Hashian.

“There’s this great saying I heard some time ago that goes, ‘Every man wants a son, but needs a daughter,’” he added when discussing his daughters. “And I have three, and there is nothing like that bond between a father and his daughter. I feel that deeply with my girls.”
The special relationship that Johnson has with his daughters is extremely impressive given his incredibly busy schedule. He also had a strained relationship with his dad, making his strong relationship with his kids even more powerful.
“I feel like I had a real complicated relationship with my dad. So I came in hard-wired into the world, complicated relationship with my dad, led me to the best of his capacity, which was limited, and I understand that. But my mom was such a strong influence and I had all these women who raised me who were strong women,” Johnson told Drew Barrymore in 2024.
“I think I’ve reached a point in my life where I can create my own schedule, which has really been nice, because it wasn’t always that way, and I’m really lucky,” he added in an interview with PEOPLE. “And I think, in the spirit of creating my own schedule, it allows me to get closer to the girls and where they’re around every corner they’re with me.”
Johnson has also used his career to connect further with his daughters. For example, when his daughter Tia was a toddler, he taught her how to wash her hands using the song “You’re Welcome” from his movie MOANA.
More recently, his daughters have become friends with other celebrities’ kids. While working on his new movie THE SMASHING MACHINE, for example, his daughters became close with Emily Blunt and John Krasinski’s two kids, Hazel and Violet.
It is amazing to see how fatherhood has changed Johnson’s life for the better, so much so that he gushes about his kids whenever he has the chance. Praise the Lord for the special relationship He has given them.
