Nintendo released a first look at the sequel of THE SUPER MARIO MOVIE, and the trailer promises to bring even more of the franchise’s beloved characters to the big screen.
“Join us Wednesday, Nov 12, at 6 am PT for the Nintendo Direct featuring the world premiere of THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE official trailer. Please note that no game information will be included in this presentation,” Nintendo of America announced on its official X account.
The trailer was subsequently released and revealed a lot about the direction of the movie.

Some of it was already expected – such as the inclusion of Rosalina – while other information was new to fans, like Bowser Junior serving as the main villain of the movie. It also appears that the storyline will include themes from “Super Mario Sunshine” and “Super Mario Odyssey” along with “Super Mario Galaxy” as the name of the movie suggests.
THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE will serve as the sequel to 2023’s extremely popular THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE. The sequel was first announced in March of 2024, and fans were given the name of the movie in September.
“This is Miyamoto. We are now creating a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. This film is planned for release in theaters on April 3rd, 2026 in the US and many other markets, and throughout the month of April in other territories,” Nintendo Executive Shiguro Miyamoto said when first announcing the sequel. “We’ll let you know the details once we’re ready to share more. This time too, the staff at Illumination and Nintendo are working together. We’re thinking about broadening Mario’s world further, and it’ll have a bright and fun story. We hope you’ll look forward to it!”
The movie sees Chris Pratt return as Mario alongside Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Brie Larson will voice Rosalina.
Given that the upcoming movie looks to further the storylines from the first movie, it is likely to be very family-friendly and feature a morally grounded story. A portion of Movieguide®’s review of THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE reads:
THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE (2023) has a strong moral message about brotherhood, sacrifice, and working together to overcome evil. The movie has breathtaking animation that honors its iconic source material while breathing new life into the large cast of characters from both Mario video games and other Nintendo games of the same universe. For Mario and Luigi, love for one another helps them overcome their deepest fears and stand up against Bowser and his army of Koopas, Goombas, and Piranha Plants. Due to some intense animated action/violence, Movieguide® advises caution for younger children.
The newly released trailer gives fans much to be excited about. It will be fun to see where the story takes Mario and that gang and if it will have any indication of Nintendo’s plans for the rest of its IP, especially given that the company is working on movies about Zelda and Donkey Kong as well.
