Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser and more are entering the chat! Nintendo finally released THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE trailer, the sequel to the 2023 hit THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE.
“THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE was possible because so many people took action and worked together,” Shigeru Miyamoto shared in an interview with The Video Games Chronicle. “As a producer, I tried to make sure the team functioned smoothly. Many of the people involved said they’d like to work on the next project as well, so I guess that means we succeeded to some extent?”
“The setting for the next movie is, just as the title says, the galaxy — that’s all I can really say. We’re in the final stages of production now, but I think it’s going to be fun. I usually just say, ‘I’ll keep working on it until it becomes fun,’ so that alone should tell you how confident I am,” he laughed.
The film will star Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), Benny Safdie (Bowser Jr.), Kevin Michael Richardson, Brie Larson (Rosalina) and Seth Rogan (Donkey Kong). THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE will be directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and is produced by Chris Meledandri and Miyamoto.
Not much of the plot is known, but the animated movie is based, as one would expect, on the world of the Super Mario Bros. video game. IGN says THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE is “expected to roughly adapt the plot of the Mario Galaxy games, which saw Mario befriend space princess Rosalina after the Mushroom Kingdom is once again placed in peril.”
Its predecessor, THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE, earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide. It’s success wasn’t surprising, given its family-friendly story. Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:
