Eddie George, former NFL star turned head coach of Bowling Green State University football, rededicated his life to Christ and now uses his faith to lead his coaching.
“March 30 this past year, I rededicated my life to Christ and got baptized. My son, my wife and I, we all did it,” George told Sports Spectrum’s Matt Forte. “It really was a time where we’re just renewing our faith in Christ and making this full commitment to living the lifestyle, and it’s hard. It is really, really hard, because you want to go back to what’s comfortable.”
But his hunger to live for Christ outweighs his desire of comfortability.
“Living godly and living like Christ, you’re always going to be uncomfortable because it’s not the way of the world,” the former NFL star continued. “And you want to see things differently. You want to do things differently. You want to operate differently.

George spoke about how he uses the attributes of God to coach his players on the field.
“You know, you talk about the fruit of the Spirit, man. I mean, being in coaching really tests your patience, and you want to go off on somebody,” he explained. “But I use discernment in terms of how I coach my kids, and I use discipline along with it.”

“So I’m always looking to develop the character and the spirit of our kids and create an environment where they can heal, because everybody’s coming into the building with some type of trauma. So, how can they be healed? And how can I get them to find their God-given purpose?” George added.
After Bowling Green’s first regular-season game, George took to social media to share some thoughts about the team’s first win of the season back in his state of Ohio.
“It’s a blessing with my family here. I saw teammates that I hadn’t seen in years. My coach from Ohio State: Coach Johni Cooper, Jim Tressel, and Urban Meyer. It was a special day. I’m so full of gratitude for this sport and everything special about our kids and this university,” he shared.
George played nine seasons in the NFL in the late ’90s and early 2000s with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans (1996-2003) and the Dallas Cowboys (2004). “He was selected 14th overall in the 1996 NFL Draft by the Oilers after a stellar collegiate career at Ohio State, where he won the 1995 Heisman Trophy,” Sports Spectrum reported.
As he leans into his life with Jesus, George coaches his players with discipline and discernment to teach, help, lead and inspire them well.
