LSU football player CJ Jimcoily knows the power of listening to the Holy Spirit, even when it’s hard.
“After practice, we have like this aux in our recovery tub, cold tubs, hot tubs area. So, people usually go in there, play rap music, play whatever gets you hyped to get into the cold tub,” Jimcoily shared on the “Access the Walk” podcast.
“Then I was like, you know what? I’m feeling this transformation. This is an opportunity where I’m not just forcing my faith on anyone, like, I’m not gonna make anyone do anything, but because I’m on aux first, I got here first, I’m gonna play some worship music,” the safety recalled. “And again, that was one of those moments where the enemy was like, ‘Man, they’re definitely gonna judge you. Like, what are you listening to? Like, just lame. Turn this off. Are you gonna be lame? You’re not gonna be cool, whatever. We don’t want to hear this.'”

But despite the enemy’s whispers, Jimcoily listened to the Holy Spirit’s leading.
“But again, that moment where you know the enemy is attacking. All right, now it’s time. The Lord is behind me. We’re…running straight through the enemy right here with the Lord on my back,” he shared. “And so I was like, ‘Okay, I don’t want to play this, because I feel like I’m going to be embarrassed, whatever. Boom, play it.’ I can shout out Ashton Stamps. He was in there, and I was playing some music. He started singing it. And so that encouraged me to another level.”
Jimcoily committed to LSU in 2024, choosing the school partly because “the staff feels like family.”
Additionally,“My father’s side of the family is from Louisiana and grew up big-time LSU fans. It’s a dream come true to go and dominate in the valley, where the dreams of many others went, and died,” he shared via a post on Instagram.
Jimcoily was a “4-star safety and one of the top players in the state of Tennessee…Prepped at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville where he played one season for former LSU standout and NFL Hall of Famer Kevin Mawae…Ranked as high as No. 5 overall in the state of Tennessee and as the No. 14 safety nationally by Rivals,” LSU shared on its website.
The safety played his first minutes as a Tiger on Saturday, Sept. 27, against Ole Miss, recording two solo tackles in his first college outing.
Despite not getting the playing time he wanted this season, Jimcoily’s faith has grown tremendously as he continues to lean into the Holy Spirit’s calling.
