Jonathan Roumie is celebrating Holy Week with a throwback his Palm Sunday episode on THE CHOSEN.

“Happy Palm Sunday! 🌿🌿” Roumie shared with his followers on social media. “It’s so crazy to think this time last year we were getting ready to film the entirety of the Passion and here we are, a year later preparing to shoot the final season of @thechosentvseries, focused on the Resurrection. 😱🫨”

The actor shared photos from set when he rode a donkey for the Palm Sunday episode.

“As Christ enters Jerusalem and begins His journey to the Cross, I wanted to share a little BTS from our filming of the Triumphal Entry. 😉📸” he said.

“Amid the blood, sweat and tears of intense suffering shed during His Passion, it can be difficult to see the triumph of Christ’s Resurrection days later (the dolorous lyrics of ‘Were You There’ nearly broke me at Mass today…🫣🫣), but Palm Sunday foreshadows Christ’s VICTORY over sin and death,” he continued. “🥳😇 Praise our King!”

He finished his post with thanks to his ride — Thunderstruck the donkey.

“The best donkey a man could ask for💪🏽⚡️⚡️” he added.

THE CHOSEN creator, Dallas Jenkins said of the episode, “There is a prophecy about the messiah. There’s a prophecy about specifically a colt, and so Jesus is making a statement by riding in on a donkey, He’s making an obvious statement of who He is,” Jenkins told Variety.

“He is a fulfillment of a prophecy and for Jews at that time as you saw when Simon Zee [Alaa Safi] and Matthew go to get the donkey and they reference that scripture, and the guy’s like, ‘Oh, I get it. OK, this is for the Lord.’”

In another post this week, Roumie shared his excitement for his walk through Jerusalem for a “Holy Week in the Holy Land” series on the Hallow App.

“Holy Week is HERE! ✝️” Roumie wrote. “My friends, I invite you to join my buddy @jeffcavins and I in ‘Holy Week in the Holy Land’ as we reflect on my trip to Jerusalem last year. Following in Christ’s footsteps leading up to the Passion was deeply transformative and added a whole new layer to my experience shooting the Crucifixion in The Chosen. 🙏🏽✝️”

“I can’t wait to share my experience with you all!” he said.

Cavins, instructor at The Saint Paul Seminary, said of the series, “We’ll see that the story of Jesus isn’t just something that’s found in a fairytale or a storybook — it’s something that happened in real life, in real time, in a real place — and how these events can change our lives today.”

The series is available on the Hallow prayer app now.
